LONDON (AP) — Former British boxing champion Gary Mason has been killed in a cycling accident in London. He was 48. Mason was hit by a van on a residential road in Wallington, south London, on Thursday morning and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was arrested by police on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Very sad. Gary Mason is kind of a forgotten figure in British heavyweights, but he could have won a world title IMO. He had very good power, pretty fast hands and a solid chin. He got a bad eye injury that hampered his career and went into the Lewis fight with the injury. He still gave a good account of himself and the fight was stopped due to Mason having a detached retina...so he took big shots from Lewis and was not properly stopped. RIP.
