If you could give me a reason why Khan is not top 5 at Light Welterweight i would be suprised. Infact make that top 5.

 

The Macklin vs Barker winner will be top 3 at Middle as Pavlik and Gevor are moving up.

The ts is asking who is world class not who is ranked with the various organisations. Rendall Munroe is not world class, not even near it yet he is highly ranked. There are plenty more examples of boxers who have high rankings but don't have world class ability. Look at Carl Froch, it's hard to argue that he should be top 5 at smw but is he really world class in the true sense? I don't think so.

 

Carl Froch has fought exclusively in world class for the last 18 months and is 3-1 during that time. Thats a solid, world class fighter.

He may not have the silky skills or be pretty to watch but neither is needed to be a world class fighter, its a just question of boxers being effective and being able to compete at that level.

 

I agree with most of that which is why I said you can't argue with his top 5 placement but when I think of world class fighters Carl Froch doesn't spring to mind!

I know what you mean. People associate the phrase "world class" with fast hands, good movement etc but (IMHO) it just means what level a fighter performs at rather than how he manages to do it.

 

About Munroe, yeah he might not be a 'world class' fighter in terms of his ability, but the TS did ask for people who are ranked in the top 5 of their divisions. Munroe could arguably be ranked in the top 5, and is certainly within the top 10.

 

Groves will takeover Super Middle & Cleverly will take over Light-Heavy soon! Murray is rated at 7 I think by the Ring for Lightweights. Gavin will get far in Light-Welter, we have some really good prospects about!

 

I get what you mean also but Froch is world class as he has won fights at world level and his only loss was an extremly competative fight at world level.

 

There's no might about it, he's not word class! If you were to rank him on ability he wouldn't be anywhere near the top 10 in the world nevermind top 5. There's a big difference between being world class and being ranked highly.

 

can you name 10 fighters in the weight class that should be ranked ahead of him on achievments and ability.

 

And for the most part ability is not enough solely by itself to be a top class fighter. Different things account for a fighters success; Temperament, fitness, resistance etc. If it was just down to ability, then the rankings in all the divisions would look much different.

Munroe is currently seen as a good European level fighter by myself. Wins against decent fighters like Martinez, Terrazas and a fringe world level fighter in Maludrottu justify his ranking as a good European fighter in my opinion. And, as it stands, he is in a fairly shallow division in terms of top class fighters. You have Poon and Nishioka as the stand outs, plus Vazquez and Molitor just behind them. After that you have the likes of Cordoba, Escalante, Mathebula and I have no qualms about ranking Munroe alongside those guys when taking into account their respective records.
