The annual BBBofC awards were held earlier this week.

Ricky Hatton won Boxer of the Year. Other nominees were Joe Calzaghe, David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli. As the awards cover the 2006/7 season recent success by Calzaghe and Haye was not taken into consideration but will be next year apparently.

Jamie Moore v Matthew Macklin won Contest of the year so that will be a boost for Jamie before his Euro Title shot on Dec 8th.

Mark Thompson won a sportsmanship award for his effort against Vincent Vuma - a fight he took standing in for Jamie Moore at short notice.

Enzo Calzaghe won a special award for services to boxing - in recognition of his work at his gym in Wales.

David Haye was formally presented with his WBC Championship Belt at the awards - the heavyweight title being his next goal.

I really feel that Calzaghe or Haye should of won, and save Ricky for next year if he beats Mayweather!!!

Not sure when the cut off point is.

Moore v Macklin seems like an age ago (Sept of last year?) - was a great fight though.

    IMO Moore-Macklin was better anyway.

It was at the beginning of this year but I think it would have to be an all british affair to be considered for this award.

Yes, it takes into consideration the boxing season. Which finishes usually the end of July, and re-starts at the start of september.
