I'm a massive fan,go to as many fights as i can afford, and never really bothered with these events ,,but

,,i went to one at sixfields footy stadium in northampton, (my home town), today and was surprised at the amount of boxers who were happy to chat and have pics with.(no i don't work for the event!).
i paid 30 quid for a pic with sugar ray leonard, who was a gent
a tenner for a pic with Ken Buchanan
tenner for a pic, autographed photo and chat with Bellew-talked about hearn signing everyone up,his bad cuts in his last fight-proper nice bloke
chatted with david price about that strange knockout he suffered, him coming back-had a pic with us
jaime moore was only to happy to stop for a chat and let us hold his lonsdale belt which he proudly carried about, and a pic
Danny williams chatted with us about boxing on past when everyone wants him to retire, really came across as 'can't let go' ,but he didn't hold back talking about anything i could throw at him-he's made of boxing!
Antony Agogo had a handshake and a smile
Tim Witherspoon was the most entertaining ,charasmatic one there, joking about with the crowd, baiting frank bruno (who looked a bit sad, if i could say so).
Ashley Sexton had a laugh with me and my old man about the Ahmed knockout.!-and had a pic with him..

..anyway, what a great bunch of people, they say that you should never meat your idols ,but it was the best two hours (and fifty quid!) i've spent on a saturday morning recently-if you havn't done one of these do's then i'd recommend it:good

proud to be a fan of british :bbbboxing

i think that it was called boxingmania, they'll have a website or try the northampton town football club listings--i'd relish a day like that with Benn and Eubank-not much chance now as the 'dark destroyer' has emigrated to Oz:verysad

Paying for pictures is just wrong. We paid for their entire career. I absolutely loathe sportsman, celebrities etc that can't make the connection between their ridiculous salaries and the fans paying for it. Any big name who isn't a top person to the fans can go f*** themself.

Sounds great. I went to the boxing expo in the Excel last year and it was a great day, with the bonus of a Hard Knocks boxing show. Met Colin McMillan and bought a signed copy of his book (great read) - a real gentleman.

I dunno, you're still just paying for their time and getting something in return. Its probably stuff like this that keeps Ken Bs head above water, the guy is far from loaded.

your missing my point, as a fan i think fifty quid is a fair priced to pay to spend time being able to speak to the people who actually are doing the boxing , and them being this personable with a fan-I don't think that the chance to have that many names in one place for a fan comes along too often,,,I enjoyed it-(note the repeat of fan as it is my point):good

I was really hoping to go to this but work got in the way. I'd met Witherspoon at a similar event and he really was the life and soul. Glad you had a good time mate.

he had us in stitches, my old man tried to wind him up when he shook his hand, he said that the reason Witherspoon recognised him was that he was the ex light heavy world champ,, Tim looked at him for a few secs before he realised it was a wind-up and gave my old boy a quick combination, before trying to nick his phone-he kept on shouting"alwight Harry" at Bruno...

Witherspoon's one of my top ten favourite fighters. It's nice to know he seems a decent fellow too.

I met Witherspoon a few years back at a Tyson night. He really seemed in his element stood by the bar, knocking the shorts back and having a laugh with the punters.

Yeah Tim seems a cool dude from what i've seen, His lad's boxing over here as well or was going to. Down Tooting Leisure Centre and Dad was going to be there for autograph's/pics.

With regards to paying for pics i think at them events these guys are looking to make a living still. I can't knock them for that and TBH those prices sound far better then others i've head about.

If there on the street and charging then i think there taking ****. Those expo's i think you know what your getting self into.

Agree Mand. If you spot a boxer in the street then of course he wouldn't charge but at these expos they are working. Thats the bottom line IMHO.
