imagine if he was around now, after the cooper fight NSB would be going crazy, "glass jawed hype job" "he was lucky cooper was cut"
I think a lot of supposedly chinny British fighters don't have bad chins, they just don't know how to slip, block and parry punches like some. Blocking punches with your face will suffice up to a point, but will let you down against the likes of Manny Pac. I doubt whether Floyd Mayweather would have been able to take the punch from Manny that sparked Hatton, but he wouldn't put himself in that position. British fighters tend to be easy to hit rather than chinny. Apart from Amir Khan, he is chinny.
Why is Lennox Lewis in that list..? Lennox Lewis had one of the better chins of the 90's heavyweights. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIRShCBKwng[/ame]
The amount of big punchers Lewis fought (and beat) is incredible. Only Ali has a better resume of fighting bigger hitters than Lewis (off the top of my head)
If anyone honestly believes just because someone is born in a different country it will make them have a weaker chin, they are deluded.
He took some absolutely sickening shots throughout his career,it's amazing to see him still with it in interviews etc. Those Tua shots were brutal, sure he turned away from a few but he got caught flush plenty and they seemed to have little effect.
Some spastic has put Lewis on the glass jaw list on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chin_%28combat_sports%29#Notable_chins
I think part of the reason why our guys get a bad rep is that many of them are shielded from anyone remotely dangerous for an eternity, and when they eventually step up to world level they get chinned. It's not genetic, or something that's in the toothpaste. Guys like Eubank and Woods are as tough as any American such as Leonard, Mosley or DLH. Our next tier down, like Calzaghe, Hatton, Benn, Froch etc are comparable with their next level down. Americans seldom seem to have a Khan at world level. He'd be shown up at NABF level generally, if that. They don't protect them all that much, a few exceptions aside.
That's it really, Brit fighters often get KO'd in spectacular fashion in high profile fights a la Hatton/Mayweather.... Froch probably has the best chin in boxing right now so the argument is null and void in my eyes, just the yanks talking gas as usual.
That kid that got sparked by Pirog in the title fight reminded me of an american Khan, was it Jacobs?
