why in this 2000 british documentary on roy jones is joe calzaghe not mentioned once as a possible opponent? joe was going on 3 years as the wbo champ but his own people didn't feel he should even be talked about vs jones. next time people start talking about how "ducked" joe was in his career, remember this.

Jones would have knocked the **** out of Calzaghe in 2000. Its hard to believe many Zags fan think Jones was prime when they actually fought.

No disrespect to Super Joe, but early 2000's RJJ beats him badly

Cause Calzaghe was an irrelevant nerd that didn't make a name for himself until everyone in his division got old

Because Calzaghe went to Jones home turf and beat him......................Ward would never do something like that.................

Jones hadnt faught at super middleweight since 1996, he was up at light heavyweight and i doubt there was any chance of him coming down to 168 to face Joe.

Jones should have probebly faced Michalczewski around the time this was made

also Jones should have faced at least two out of 3 of Collins,Benn and Eubank

Calzaghe was in awful form in 99-00 and considered a big flop at the time.

He also wasn't very well known.

The biggest surprise in the documentary, was John H. Stracy's prediction that Steve Collins would have beaten Roy.

    WHAT THE F**K???

    Ha!

At the time Calzaghe wasn't seen as being anywhere near Jones Jr's level. He'd looked great beating Eubank but all the momentum was lost from that win a number of lack lustre opposition and a controversial fight with Reid who he refused to rematch.

Fact is Calzaghe was not a big star even in the UK until after the Lacy fight. He took the path of least resistance and allowed Ottke of all people to be seen as the number 1 super middleweight between 1999-2002. It was Ottke who unified first, it was Ottke who beat the best american super middles at the time in Brewer, Tate and Mitchell to get universal recognition while Calzaghe stayed at home fighting for peanuts.
