British fighter of the year & decade?

    I’d say Taylor for the year. Honourable mention to Liam Williams for strides made and changing perceptions despite not winning anything major.

    Fury for decade, ending the boring Klitschko reign and blowing the division wide open,then the comeback from the fat mess to beating Wilder.

    Taylor for the year easily. Joshua decade closely followed by Froch

    This is like a Year 2000 thing all over again isn't it?

    I think what the previous poster was suggesting was that a decade in years is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 rather than 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9; I.e. 2001-2010 inclusive, 2011-2020 inclusive etc.

    You don’t understand why a guy who went on a run of Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler, Abraham, Johnson, Ward, Bute, Mack, Kessler, Groves and Groves again, beating all of them except Ward, is rated highly?

    It’s without question the highest quality series of opponents in British boxing for decades. Only one walkover in Mack; all the rest were genuine tests at the highest level.

    Absolutely mate - The Humbled One simply another non elite World Champion if you set aside the Eh Day Hearn/Sky tripe.

    Yeah, while most of us were more worried about our toaster blowing up in our face, some people were getting fixated on there not being a Year 0 between BC and AD.

    For the purposes for a boxing discussion on the internet in 2019, I don’t think we need to get too hung up on the inherent flaws in the Gregorian calendar.

    You made it sound like you didn't understand why Froch is rated so highly full stop.

    I don't really care what Calzaghe did to Kessler. He spent many, many years wasting his career and talent.

    I would have to go along with Josh Taylor for Fighter of the Year. Genuinely the World's best in his division.
    Before the rise of AJ, Carl Froch, through his white knuckle wars, was driving the public profile of Boxing in the UK. People in pubs were talking Boxing again and were actually watching fights, some for the first time in years so, despite the fact he's been retired for half of it, he gets my Fighter of the Decade.

    I think the fighter of the year has been Josh Taylor. As for fighter of the decade I think Froch. Joshua may have commercially helped take UK boxing to another level but I am basing it on what fighters have done in the ring.

    Because he thrilled us so many times. I can't imagine anyone being detached or impervious while watching his fights.

    Froch had 9 fights in this decade and lost 2 of them. He was decent but that isn't fighter of the decade material, he and Joshua really did push boxing back into the mainstream though.

    This is a difficult one to pick really, lots of contenders but many have faded badly or became inactive too early into the decade. Calzaghe was my British fighter of the last decade and I think I'm going to have to go with Joshua for this decade. Yes I know he was found out but he's rectified that to a certain degree and there's no denying that his rise was impressive, lots of highlight reel KO's and some exciting fights too. The likes of Fury and BJS miss out because of their f**king about, of course Fury had some issues but there's no denying that he's f**ked about a bit too and that kind of thing takes you out of the running. Special mention for George Groves because he played a huge part in two massive Wembley fights and eventually became a World Champion, taking on many of the best in the process. He might not have always won but he was and is a likeable guy and he was great to watch.
