Curry was finished at the time? Hooooly mother****er! I presume by 'finished' you mean the p4p number 1 fighter and heir apparent to SRL? Honeyghan finished Curry at the top of his game.
:dead this is pointless. benn was the favoruite to win the fight lennox was not born in iraq he was born in ENGLAND introduced to boxing as well as got a high school education in canada....then went back to england he has lived most of his life in england and your saying thats not british enough. curry was not finished he was still the best fighter at that pooint in time regardless of wieght. your just basing your ideas...on what about 4 fights and 'witty' comments about how lennox lewis is as english as saddam hussain :think :think
I think this is a very stupid thread. It would be interesting to see how the American fighters did fighting in Europe, either in the UK, or Germany, where you have to KO your opponent to get a draw. In terms of British fighters, Benn was 5 - 0, Hatton is 6 - 1 in the US (not all that bad), whilst Lennox Lewis was 22 - 0 in the US - so much for Brits being unable to travel!
Hatton had just as much support in Vegas as he would have had back home. Naseem faced resentful crowds at home as much as he did in Vegas. These boxers were beaten by better opponents. Lets wait and see how Calzaghe gets on
Ken buchanan and lennox lewis and llyod honeyghan, the simple mentioning of there names should be emough to end this ridiculuse thread
Yeah!! I think the problem is not fights in the states per se but who those fights are against. Using Naseem as a prime example - he fought a world class boxer and the only place that was gonna happen was the states. He then got beat. Its making the step up which causes the problems. Could be interesting why this happens, but for me its because in the UK we dont get as wide a selection of boxing talent. There only tend to be one or two genuinely world class boxers on the scene at any one time. Very rarely are those two in the same weight! As a result British fighters tend to box opponents who arent that great until they hit the European/Commonwealth scene. By which time they can be 20-0 and people are expecting world title shots. When stepping up in class there is then limited experience against top notch opposition. That having been said, the genuine world class talent dont suffer this problem (a la Lewis) it only tends to be those who just cant break the world bracket (McGuigan and Naseem).
Nigel Benn destroyed Doug Dewitt and Iran Barkley! Lennox was born, raised and started boxing as a kid in London before he moved to Canada. He also did well in the States. This is a stupid thread.
There seems to be a massive influx of anti-euro threads recently. Unfortunate that this one seems to have been by a brit.
You comedians fail to read the thread, I stated that British fighters performances abroad were not as convincing.
what? us "comedians" have obviously read the thread title "british fighters have NEVER fought well in US" you obviously can't read your own threads.
Lewis was born in East London and stayed there until he had to move with his mother to Canada.. He turned pro in the UK.. lived in the UK.. He had a union jack printed on his drawers when he won the championship.. Any more proof.. He even opened a University in London.. The Lennox Lewis College.. Curry was deemed the P 4 P best when Lloyd beat him.. (Fool) Barkley had not long since beaten Hearns ... Castillo a year earlier had just fought the second of his epic great fights with Corrales... Hatton boxed succesfully in the States a bunch of times.. I think 4 in all.. How many Amercan top liners go to Europe so often... Now there is a question... Please..!!!!
