Yeah he's decent player, I think sometimes these lads need nurturing and developing rather then loaning them out and then cutting there losses. I think some of the kids have got ability to make it at clubs like Wigan,Wolves etc.

Look at Scott Sinclair  Wigan get him on loan and hardly use him, he goes to Swansea and Rodgers really develops him. Even a journeyman player like Routledge is being used to good affect.

Thats my take, very inconsistent. But if your average budget for a player is 1-2 million, isn't that going to be the way really? He's picked up a few good'uns.

Yeah i tend to agree although i think others have shown the way in the transfer market.

He's had 3 seasons (this being 3rd) to gel a team and really develop them and they still seem a mish mash of British lads mixed with some random foreigners. To be blunt Martinez is two a penny in Spain as a coach i'd imagine. I think he's lucky he's got full backing of a chairman that doesn't wield axe. Admittedly he hasn't got a massive budget and has signed a few nice players but compare his work to others and for me it's not impressive. Some of them foreign signings are bizarre as well, he seems to have a fetish for south american market. Bruce actually did very good with that market with Rodellega being a good buy when he was there plus Palacios.

    And Martinez turned us down.

The fans were the most vocal they've been yet against Mcleish today. It's only going to get worse.

Thats a fair call to be honest, can't argue with that. When I think of Wigan I don't immediately think of any particular shape or name, its just 'those random foreigners'.

South America is a great market for a club like Wigan, there are some blinders out there I believe from my days watching Colombian football and the like for betting. Not even the obvious South American leagues. Trust me, some really good players out there that are possibly untapped talents. But it is a massive, massive risk and of course getting permits is tough, I think thats why we see relatively little of it.

Diame could be a good player I think. Seen some powerful showings from him. Moses flatters to decieve a bit IMO, needs to up his consistency ten fold.

Yeah i felt they'd beat you lot today, He's worse then Roberto least Martinez would play likes of Bannan etc.

Yeah i agree i like the south american market, very impressive players but it's a risky market. To spend 6.5mil on a guy and play him on own up front is poor form.

I actually like Diame as well, he could well be a world class player in making. I'm back and forth on Victor he's inconsistent as you say. I know people who watched him at Palace as a kid and they said he's unreal although some said he was **** poor. I think for a lad of his age he should be better in terms of consistency. Probably made a bad move going there although getting first team football maybe needed better coaching. Wigan rarely keep a consistent shape.

It's pace of the play, thats the main thing that stops South American players I think. Same with mexican league. When ya watch the games over there its like a completely different game. Theres no real rush to get back in position, theres no real pressing of the ball. It's all about controlling the football, everything else seems an after thought. There is talent though as Rodallega displays, he's done well over here. Could do with a better club although he's another thats inconsistent.

They obviously made a big balls up on Boselli. Funny thing is we were linked to him once  Maybe they based it on that. Guy had no pace whatsoever and bottled it over here. Just highlights how difficult that transition can be. I don't think you can buy strikers from South America that have no pace and expect them to play over here, bit naive really.

Stephen Warnock telephoned in - without a word of exaggeration - the worst sporting performance in history today.

Oh, and there's decent odds on Eloy Perez to beat G Brones in February, he's worth a punt imo.

Yeah i be honest i'm fascinated by Italian and South American football the way they play intrigues me. Mourinho admitted that he found Italian tactics the most hardest to play against and understand that's why he took the Inter job he badly wanted to succeed and did.

I used to watch Argentinian football on Channel 5 and some other channel that used to be on Sky it had a show called the Dugout with Adrian Durham on it. Tevez was playing Boca at them times and a young Kun Aguero was 15 scoring for Independiente.

I think them adapting to British Culture is hard in it'self look at Crespo he IMO was a good signing and when on pitch was a extremely good striker for us. Actually probably best striker we bought in recent times other then Drogba in terms of success. Yet when he first arrived he already felt homesick when he installed internet and he supposedly didn't have a latin version of software or something and it bothered him immensely. Good article from Tim Vickery here about Crespo and homesickness http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_football/4734167.stm . Clubs do forget these guys are human beings.

The sad thing with Boselli is he never ever looked a target man, yet Martinez would stick him up front on own. He even baffles me now with Sammon up front and he leaves Di Santo and Rodellega on bench.

I mean all them South American and countries that border them regions are churning out some classy players. Honduras, Costa Rica. Look at that Ruiz at Fulham. I'm very impressed with him recently, he's starting to show the player that he was at Twente.

As for Villa, Pab/Wallet what's happened to Warnock? Saturday played very good but today was awful. He normally this inconsistent?

    :rofl

Crespo was a lovely player to watch, had sheer class about him. Remember Ortega in the 1998 world cup and all? Another brilliant somewhat 'underrated' Argie.

I think Boselli was a poacher to be honest, in Argentina. A goalscorer, not much else to him. Problem is in the Premier League pace up front is incredibly important, especially if you're on your own up there. Then he missed a few easy chances and lost all confidence. So the lack of confidence + struggle to adapt just made it a complete cluster **** and failure.

Totally agree on Ruiz. He hasn't set the world on fire yet considering what Fulham shelled out, but if the goals start to come as well for him, I think he'll make some impression. Problem is he's playing very deep at the moment, but on the ball he's very classy. Be interested to hear what AndrewFFC thinks of him. But then again so is Dembele, they need to turn it into productivity rather than becoming 'Hlebs and Rosickys'.

Totally agree T, And from what i've read Boselli was a poacher so your right. It's like sticking Hernandez up front on own, although he'd do a much better job admittedly . The Mexican market is very good, we bought Ulises Davilla and farmed him out on loan. Fingers crossed a Hernandez not Vela signing for us.

Fulham have some really good attacking options, Be honest last week they out played us at Bridge. No fluke either they have some quality players in there team.

I liked look of them before the season started. Dempsey who is surprisingly technically adept, a few years ago I thought of him as decent in the air and overall workmanlike but his quality has impressed me on closer inspection. Dembele, excellent dribbler and picks the right options, just wish he'd be a bit more greedy and score a few more. Ruiz we know about, technically outstanding.

Murphy still hanging in there pulling the strings, Hangeland's decent although I think he was better last season than this.

Yeah, its a solid team, very solid. Zamora is important for them though, I think they do need that figurehead with players like Ruiz, Dembele and Dempsey. They can all chip in but they don't lead the line and as yet are not even 12-15 goal a season men. So Zamora does have to be fit and firing, and scoring goals for it to work as a system with these stylish players.
