British Forum: Do They Need To Build A 100,000 All Seater In Las Vegas...?

I certainly have thought for a while that if a casino build say a 30,000 seat arena that they would be able to edge out bids from other casinos and get most of the big boxing, UFC and other entertainment events. 100,000 obviously wouldn't be worth it because it wouldn't get used

 

Stadium?? Would have to be a casino mate, the reason the big fights are in Vegas is that the Casino's attract the big fish/high rollers around the world with vip ringside tickets for the big fight knowing these guys will be blowing a few million at the tables the very same weekend, so the Casino's pay the promoters millions to stage the fight in there casino.


I think it would be great to have a new casino built capable of hodling say 50k people but in reality how many fighters would fill that? Most Vegas fights don't even sell out, you maybe have 1/2 fights a year that are big enough to sell out the current Casinos like MGM, so I doubt it is worth it in reality. WOuld be great for the fans but the extra few million the extra tickets would create maybe once or twice a year is probably not worth it.

 

50k seater yeah mate. Probably not 100k but a 50k one would be a shrewd move by whichever casino did it.

I miss the old outdoor fights at Ceasars :-(

When I say miss them, I obviously mean I miss watching them recorded as I was too young to watch any live

 

Traditionally Vegas has never worked for sports like baseball and the NFL but I totally agree with your basic point that a bigger venue in Vegas seems a natural. The fact that it hasn't happened suggests to me there must be something that we're not thinking of against it.

Perhaps when the economy turns round (hopefully) the rise of the UFC and the fact boxing seems to be producing bigger fights, a casino may invest in one

 

it would never be used to its potential and property prices in vegas in a good location would be pretty damn expensive for an arena of that size

arum mentioned in the media lately that the days of small casinos holding fights are behind us and big stadiums are the way forward, more bull**** from arum as this is just a way to make his shitty fights like pac v clottey appear bigger than what they are and for him to gain more capital as he woulnt be able to ask for the routine vegas prices for **** fights and the usual **** undercards

mgm is a perfect size for a boxing arena imo, there is the thomas and mack in vegas think its 20k plus, but its location is **** in vegas and a newly built 50000 seater wouldnt get a good location in vegas on the strip more likely out in the desert somewhere

 

NFL and MLB have made it pretty that they dont want to go to Vegas. There is only one fight that could make use of this and they cant agree to terms and if they do ever fight it would be before the stadium could be built. building a 100,000 stadium so that 30,000 or less people could go to watch an event does strike me as a great idea.

 

It does make you wonder, but a lot of tickets in Vegas are given away to the high-rollers in the casinos and when the fights aren't 'mega fights' the arenas are never full. That's probably the real reason why.

In a fantasy world, AEG will win the bidding process and will inherit the Olympic stadium. They will transform it into an awesome venue for massive world title fights (and other events) that will take place in the early hours to cater for the American TV audience. The stadium is huge, oval shaped and has enough room for a casino as well; ergo it is perfect in every way for boxing. It makes too much sense:deal.

Fights in stadiums are rubbish imo. You won't be able to see anything from the majority of the seats in a stadium of 100,000. Watching live football from some places in stadiums is a big enough ball ache, and you're watching 22 people on a massive pitch, not 2 men in a small ring. You end up watching it on the big screens which from far away probably gives you a worse view than what you'd get on the TV at home.

I voted couldn't give a ****. I can't afford to go to Vegas whether I think it's a good idea or not lol.

 

Don't know about 100,000 but I'd like to see something a damn sight bigger than the 15,000ish (or whatever the exact number is) seater casino rooms they have now.

 

Generally when things like that haven't been done a longtime ago, it's because there's no demand for it. And there's certainly no demand for a 100k sports stadium in Vegas. That's why there isn't one.

 

The problem with Vegas is that the money isn't in selling 10,000 seats in the bleachers at $50 a pop, its in giving away £3000 ringside seats to the casino high rollers.

 

What about a Wembley Stadium Casino based on the old Wembley with the twin towers?
