None of Caballero's opponents come close to touching elite. Plus he's completely devoid of skill. Far less so than Paul Williams. Infact, I forget Chad Dawson that should certainly be on the list and perhaps ahead of all of the above on every criteria. Superior resume and performance. If 2 of the 3 above were on the list as they should be there would be no logical placing for Caballero. Is he golden boy?
Fair point on Dawson; I forgot about himatsch I still think its tight enough at the bottom of the "mythical top ten", and that Caballero has a shout, but we can agree to disagree on this one.
Disagree on Dawson. Beat an unimpressive Tarver and a close win over Johnson who I rate but not as real top fighter. Althought the Adamek win now looks a lot more impressive so I suppose that gives him points to be included. Cabellero I'm not sold on.
Adamek looks mighty impressive, and Glen Johnson is a top lightheavy by any criteria. Certainly better than Caballero's record, and I think you'd have major trouble finding 10 more deserving candidates.
Johnson is an unfashionable fighter who would give anyone problems, but Dawson is supposed to be a slick boxer. He didnt look overtly slick against an old Johnson. I'd have Dawson on my outer tier, knocking on the door behind Williams and along side someone like JML.
Incidentally, what are people's thoughts on Vic? Top ten material now? Top ten material if he beats Arce? Or... just... no?
Dawson was very slick for 6 rounds. Glen Johnson was nowhere up until this point. Eventually he landed a big right hand, stunned Dawson, and his pressure began to tell. Johnson had a good style to test Dawson over 12 rounds. Against everybody else Dawson has indeed looked slick. Level with Lopez are you having a laugh? Lopez has beaten Ponce De Leon, that crude caveman type, and a bunch of C grade opposition like Figueroa and Medina. That is a sick joke to put him alongside a guy thats beaten a proven campaigner like Johnson, and now the cruiserweight champ in Adamek. Even old Tarver, at least he was good at some point, and looked vaguely okay against Woods, more credible than than the type of opposition Lopez has been feasting on - and knocking out in the first round. I love Lopez as a prospect, but that is outrageous.
2. JMM 1. Pacquiao 3. Calzaghe 4. Vasquez 5. Hopkins 6. Raf. Marquez 7. Calderon 8. Darchinyan 10. Hatton, Williams, Mosley
Has anyone seen the list on b-talk..... Winky Wright is still there atsch I am going to write to the editor and make a case for Max Schmelling as well.
The Adamek win aside, I'm not buying into Dawson being P4P top ten. Maybe I've done him an injustice grouping him with JML, I'll have to look into Lopez more. I wasnt impressed with Dawson in the Johnson fight. He scraped through a win (deserved but close) against a fighter he was meant to school. I know that Johnson has a habit of doing that and I love Johnson for his bravery but he's very limited. A slick fighter should be able to stay out of his way for long enough. Tarver looked vaguely okay against Woods? I'm not arguing with that but the fact that Woods left his entire arsenal in Sheffield. I dont remember him throwing a punch.
He was confused by Tarver's style. He wasn't hurt, he just couldn't deal with getting hit by straight lefts so he was timid. Dawson completely schooled him. Just shows the difference between Woods, a good light heavy, and the cream of the class.
