Take the prime versions of the following and have them fight a mini tournament against each other. Each man has three fights. Three points for a win,one for a draw and none for a defeat obviously. Henry Cooper Joe Bugner Frank Bruno Anthony Joshua Who wins the tournament?
Joshua should win it I think Bugner would be far too defensive, Cooper is too small but would have a slim chance with his left hook as that's a punch Joshua is vulnerable to. And I think Joshua is better than Bruno overall but Bruno would be a dangerous fight for Joshua. Overall I'm not overly confident in my pick, but I think Joshua is the more accomplished and skillful out of the 3.
I think Bruno and AJ come out at the top, tho saying that if it's Joe at his best, maybe he pulls off upset wins. But yes, I think it boils down to Joshua and Frank, that's a tough fight. I'm gonna throw my money on AJ, being hurt and battered but stopping Frank late. Intresting fights in there, Stevie mate.
Definitely one or two intriguing scenarios,Fergy. If Joe was in one of his up for it moods he could beat the lot!
He was that tricky a fighter at his best, yes he could pull off surprises. If he could take Frank in to the latter rounds then he could maybe shock him. Could never tell with Bugner, mate!
Very probably it would come down to Joshua and Bruno but Bugner had the ability to beat them all. Whether he would or not - That is the question.
Really gman? I know aussie Joe went the distance with Ali an Frazier but who did he beat that makes you think that he could beat Joshua an Bruno? Don’t know his complete record but seems to me that whenever he stepped up in class he lost.I know he beat Cooper but was Cooper the best fighter he ever beat?
With Joe it was all about unfulfilled potential. Bruno,Joshua and Cooper all fought to theirs. At one point I would have said that had he fought to his full capability he would have beaten anyone outside of the big 4 of the time who were Ali,Foreman,Frazier and Norton. N.B. This was before Larry Holmes came into contention.
Based upon Anthony Joshua's amateur and profressional achievements he's undoubtely the favourite. I think its between AJ and Prime Joe Bugner in the final for me and as mentioned in previous posts which ever Joe Bugner shows up determines the outcome of this one. Frank Bruno Vs Henry Cooper for 3rd place is an interesting match up I don't think we should easily disregard Cooper and assign him to 4th place especially since we know Bruno isn't impervious to the left hook!
All at their best, I favour Joe, final over AJ, Stamina, punch resitance, boxing IQ the key, Bruno third, 'Ernie a competitive fourth.
