Well i think its safe to say we've seen the best and maybe the last of Skelton, Williams, Sprott and Fraudley. They dominated the british heavyweight scene the past 8 years or so (excluding Lewis ofc) and none of them were good enough to become a world title holder. Fraudley never came close to a title shot and proved to be the joke many suspected he was. Williams and Skelton had the most success and managed to get a crack at a title vs Vitali and chagaev respectively but were pretty outclassed. Can David Haye do any better? I can see him having similar HW career to Herbie Hide with his speed, power and dodgy chin.
Haye will be fantstic at heavyweight and he might be as good as lewis which will been an hard act to follow. Missed the skelton last night as i was on the way back from yeovil after watching the football was he outclassed or was he punished like williams was agianst Vitali.
If you think he will only be as successful as Herbie was, you need to re-assess your boxing knowledge. In no way shape or form has David got a chin like Herbie, he's quite a bit faster, more a natural HW than Herbie, & pther than Wlad I can't see anyone being able to touch him out of the current top 10.
haye is going down in history as one of the finest ever big men from these shores. i a certain of that.
Time will tell....what i meant was i can see him winning a version of the world title but come unstuck vs the best (like herbie did vs Bowe and Vitali). You should maybe look at your knowledge if u cant admit both haye and Hide had suspect chins. I hope haye proves me wrong because he is one of my fav fighters
Thats a very interesting post, Haye has got it all, he has fluid movement like Lennox, he has sufficient power, but he can be caught fairly easily, Haye hangs that left hand way too low and im not sure if he could work 12 rounds at a pace, in the current Heavyweight era it might not be such a problem but i cant imagine him surviving against the recent 'best' heavys like Lennox, Evander and Bowe and he'd struggle with Wladimir, Wlad is the only decent heavy out there .... Hide was always naturally too small for Heavy, he had good speed and nice aggresion but Hide's defiency was all too evident when he was annihilated by a half trained Riddick Bowe, Hide was always a natural Cruiser
Respect for Skelton he was up against a superior oponent and took it the distance in the face of adversity. I am excited by the posibilities that David Haye offers for the heavyweight division.
Haye is a quality fighter and will be the best Heavyweight to come out of Britain since Lewis in my opinion....but I do worry about his ability to take a clean shot off a good opponent, but undoubtedly he has great hand speed and puts together great combinations,we'll just have to wait and see.
As much as i like Haye he has a dodgy beard at cruiser. Just wait till Wlad hits him. I certainly think he can be a belt holder at Heavy and i also know he will wax Enzo but anyway who thinks hes going to be on king Lennox' level are off their heads....probably more on par with Frank Bruno and thats no bad thing btw
David Haye should not be compared to Herbie Hide. Haye's chin may not be as solid as some, but it is a whole lot better than Hide's. As for power Haye is world class, whereas Hide's knockout record flatters to deceive. He has never actually knocked out anybody decent, even at cruiser which is supposed to be his natural weight. Anybody seeing similarities between Haye and Hide are seriously overrating Hide.
it was strange the first 3 rounds he totally outboxed and outhustled him:huh it was bizaar...and was not a bad scrap. then chagaev threw more and more left hands(from his southpaw position) and skelton went into his shell. and performed a pretty good morph impression. he bullied him but he was just to late when he cam eback to finish. he also tired pretty easily but tired down chagaev at the same time.
That is not true. Hide hit like a ****ing train. Despite how easily Bowe battered him he got caught by a glancing right from Hide and it hurt him, he said Hide was one of the hardest punchers he had ever felt. In regards to him not KOing anyone of any note, he KOd Tucker inside 2 rounds, dropping him 3 times. Now granted Tucker was past his best, but the guy had gone the distance with Tyson and Lewis and had never been genuinely stopped before. And he KO'd Bent to win the WBO title, with Bent coming off a KO win over Tommy Morrison. Granted his list of wins is against a less than impressive bunch of opponents, but you do not have 40 from 41 wins by KO at heavy and not have top level power.
