Out of those four I’d probably pick Price, he smashed through the domestic scene. Skelton was tough but my god was he ugly to watch. I’d have liked to have considered Danny Williams as well.
Danny Williams needs to be on that list. The fight against Mark Potter alone qualifies him in my humble opinion. Then there's the career ending fire fight against admittedly shot to ****, Mike Tyson. The ding dong battles with Audley, the world title challenge against Klitscko etc. etc......and still going at 46 yrs of age.
A little like the 60's, Britain had a handful of fairly ordinary Heavyweights who fought each other which made for an exciting time in the division. In all honesty, I think John L Gardner would have cleaned these out other than Price with his huge size and nuclear wallop. I'd pick the pre Tony Thompson Price to stretch the rest of these.
And the point of the thread is to pick 4 relatively evenly matched fighters in terms of wins and achievements. no point putting in danny Williams for now
Hats off to Skelton for that performance although, let's be fair, Chagaev was a very ordinary Champion.
Agree Egg but Price was ruined by the Thompson fights. Before that I would back him to clobber them all. We can only wonder mate.
I think that a prime Skelton would do a Tony Thompson on a prime Pricey (pre Thompson fight version). He would get dropped but come back to grind Price down and get the KO win. Skelton was dirty and very good defensively with a good chin, this is the kind of style that is all wrong for Price.
