After a golden year for British boxing and with the majority of our boxers continuing there winning ways, how would you now rate them in a British P4P top 10?
Tough one: As of December 14th 2007 I have it: 10 Amir Khan 9 Carl Froch 8 Alex Arthur 7 Gavin Rees 6 Enzo Maccarinelli 5 Junior Witter 4 Clinton Woods 3 David Haye 2 Ricky Hatton 1 Joe Calzaghe Mentions: Matt Skelton, Danny Williams, Gary Lockett, Jamie Moore, Jonathan Thaxton, Kevin Mitchell and Derry Matthews
Can't believe how low Witter is on the lists I've seen. Apart from Calzaghe, it is debatable whether anyone else should rank above him. Since the Judan defeat (which he took at less than a week's notice against an undefeated world class opponent, a bout he only lost on a competitive decision) he has gone 21-0 (17) picking up British, Commonwealth, European and WBC titles easily beating several top boxers at the weight (Corley, Harris, Kotelnik, N'Dou). In my opinion he beats Hatton by knock out. Remember he has pound for pound power and his style and awkwardness would cause Hatton fits. My British pound for pound is 1)Calzaghe 2)Witter 3)Hatton 4)Haye 5)Froch 6)Woods 7)Khan 9)Maccarinelli 9)Arthur 10)Lynes Note: To me cruiserweight is the weakest divison in world boxing so Haye and Macarinelli's achievements need to taken into consideration. Saying this I believe both Haye and Amir Khan have the potential to go into the pound for pound world list, depending on whether their chins hold up!1
I think Witter is an excellent fighter, but just a couple of questions/comments... If both Hatton and Witter fought at 140lbs, was has Pound for pound power got to do with anything? And Zab Zab/Witter was one sided, Witter was only intrested in going 12 rounds, although I do concede that fight was way, way too early for Witter.
just based on performances in 2007... 1)Calzaghe - for beating kessler 2)Hatton - beating urango and castillo, and taking on PBF 3)Haye - just won the undisputed championship in paris! 4)Witter - great performance against Harris 5)Woods - another hardworking win against gonzales 6)Arthur - good performance to win the interim belt 7)Maccarinelli - semi-validated his paper belt by beating braithewaite 8 ) Froch - good win against tatevosyan and did the job against reid 9)Napa - three great domestic wins against booth, haskins and power 10)Rees - managed to pull off upset against mbaye
I don't really understand what your asking. My point was that Witter punches very hard indeed. Much harder than Mayweather.
1) Calzaghe 2) Hatton 3) Haye 4) Witter 5) Woods 6) Rees 7) Macceranelli 8) Arthur 9) Froch 10) Moore Skelton, Khan and others have not fought at Euro level, those 10 have and more and are therefore ahead. Thats not me saying i don't rate Khan because I do very very highly!
