So the BBC put together this list in November. http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/17691531 Anyone feel there is a glaring omission?
Not really. But was always of the opinion the p4p list was made up of who the best fighter was with all things being even. Size height weight etc. As in who would win if all things were equal. Recently seems to be more about who they ve beat recently etc. If it was the first category i d genuinely put haye. Groves. Maybe even eubank junior. Quigg. And even bellew in there. Obviously eubanks not fought anyone yet apart from bjs which was a close fight. Haye not fought anyone in the comeback quigg defeated against frampton. Groves actually beat degale. But if it was based on the first scenario i d defo have haye. Groves. And eubank junior in there.
I d probably have.... Joshua as number 1. 2. Brook 3. Frampton 4. Degale 5. Groves 6. Khan 7. Bjs 8. Haye 9. Eubank junior. The rest interchangeable.
Don't think anyone can argue Fury would be up there - assume this list was compiled of active fighters.... While I am a fan of Eubank Jnr, I would find it difficult to include him on recent opposition. Does anyone think Burns a little harshly treated not to get a look in here?
Couldn't argue much with most of that...but David Haye??? He's had 6 minutes of ring time in 5 years with a shoulder reconstruction.
Was actually going to put him higher up that list twentyman lol the only reason i have him as low as 8th in mine was because of that very reason you ve stated. My p4p list is mainly based on ability first then the record...recent wins etc afterwards. Whereas most p4p lists i see pretty much go on form/recent wins etc sometimes before ability. i m probably doing it wrong. But i see them as two different things. P4p being who would win if all things were equal regardless of form.
AMIR KHAN AT 4 LOL. He barely makes it into the top 20 dear god. I'm also guessing they are counting Fury as retired as he would be at the very top or at the very least in the top 3.
How on earth can you have Anthony Joshua as P4P #1, you know what P4P means right? So taking into account ratios of size, you think that if AJ was the same size as Frampton or Brook he would have the boxing skills to beat either of those guys? Laughable. Let me guess you rate him above Loma and Rigo too right? xD
Tbf...its a pretty subjective rating. Explained how i do my one in an earlier post...on ability first and foremost. Then recent form opposition etc. Instead of criticising lets hear your own one. I ve actually been one of joshuas biggest criticisers on here. Fancy haye to beat him just a style thing and unsure if he beats klitchko at this point. Too many variables going in with klitchko. But theres no one out there from britain at this minute in time that has the potential of joshua...he pretty much is the most talented fighter we have currently. He may not have the footwork of brook or frampton who i rate pretty highly but all things considered hes taking people apart in style. We ve all criticised his opponents but hes pretty much made light work of everone. Whyte was the only one to cause problems and was then left on the floor smashed after being hurt countless times. People can say what they want but at this minute in time joshua should be near the top of any list about the best fighter from britain. Frampton had a close ish fight with quigg. Brook got smashed from golvokin putting up a decent performance. And squeezed a win out of porter. A fight i actually thought he lost. Even tho i rate brook highly. Whereas joshuas smashed up everyone put in his way...molina scared to even throw. Breazeale/martin both smashed. Whyte although had him in trouble its the nature of heavyweight boxing still got hurt continually almost took out in the first round and ended up asleep in the seventh. He could easily be took out in his next fight but regardless...he should be at the top of any list deciding britains best fighters.
I dont think it comes down to just skills. Theres more to it than that. You ve got guys like george foremann at the top of p4p lists in his prime. Although skilled he was a long way off being the most skilled fighter out there. What he did have was strength. Power. In abundance Etc. Peoples p4p lists nowadays always seem to punish the heavyweights to the extent you d struggle to get anyone of them in them.
