British refs sort it out!

I agree. Maybe it is a run off of our refs used to stopping lesser fights early.

I personally don't mind if a ref stops a fight early when a young prospect is fighting a journey man with a 4-20 record and the journey man is just covering up and not throwing back.

Hoever, Jackiewicz is no journey man. He is a guy who has fought for a world title and beat some good fighters. This fight was quite important in that the winner could get a crack at a world title. For it to be stopped in the way it did is a disgrace.

 

I think Nick is right actually, they can kinda get into a habit of stepping in if a journeyman is taking a bit of a beating, so the lad can fight another day.

Ideally we'd have uniform standards for stopping fights, whereby if an opponent is (in the refs opinion) taking too much of a beating - say Marquez vs Katsidis, or is incapable of defending himself - Enzo vs Haye/lots of Michael Gomez fights.

Some of the stoppages in important fights have been very bad. Look at Murray vs Thaxton.... Murray lost the first round, won the next two and then landed a good shot in the 4th, from which Thaxton was momentarily staggered.... Foster stepped in.

Not long after, (edit - just three weeks after) - the same referee sees Jamie Moore splatted to the canvas by a big shot, gets up on unsteady legs and is allowed to continue - rightly btw - and is then winning the rest of the round before being hit again.

He's on the ropes, taking several heavy blows and Foster waits until it's obvious that he's done before stopping it..... a perfectly timed stoppage.

Bellew vs McKenzie I - Tony is down in the first, gets up fine, then down very heavily in the second.... from a decent seat in the arena I thought it was over. McKenzie tries to follow up but Tony survives.

Fast forward six or seven rounds and Tony lands a belter of a left hook, Ovill looks as bad as he did after the 2nd KD. Bomber runs across the ring, flings himself at McKenzie like Spiderman and the fight is stopped.

So there you've got double standards, and double standards within the same fight.

We've all been saying it long enough on here and also on Boxrec too - our officials are turd and it's time they were pulled into line, in the way that the medical situation has been.

 

Yes, what happened to those? That would have been ideal, if Foster had concerns at that moment.

 

To be fair, in that fight it was 1 punch against the run of play, until then it was eubank in trouble, my recall maybe isent perfect but a right uppercut turned it round. The hometown boy is given the most leway with stopages, so being on that side of the ring can have drawbacks if your having it hard.

 

Dave Parris for once did the correct thing when judging the Degale Groves fight, Fwank must have exploded....
