its almost every week theres a **** stoppage. whats going on with this crap. i know you must protect the fighter but if the guy isnt fully stopped hes still fighting.
Ive actually stopped watching a lot british boxing because of this, sick of terrible stoppages, if I was a foreign fighter I would never fight over in england..
Been going on for years and will continue for as long as the boxing media in this country sweep the issue under the rug. Nothing will change until real pressure is applied over a sustained period. Officialdom needs to be shamed but they are continuously backed up and let off the hook. I had vain hope that Froch-Groves might mark a watershed but nah. Predictably Sky portray it as though it were a one off event.
Had to go out for a while I presume you are talking about the cleverly fight was it that bad of a stoppage
It stinks. It's corrupt and bent. As soon as the opponent of the connected fighter is in trouble stop the fight.
There needs to be greater consistency with refs in general. Refs seem to have too much leeway in how they interpret and enforce the rules. This goes for minor infringements like holding, major ones like fouls, and stoppages. Higher standards wouldn't stop corrupt refs though.
It is better if a Million fights are stopped too soon, than one too later. This is a brutal sport, and I would much rather a fighter moan and ***** about a stoppage post fight and live to fight another day. That way they can get another pay day in a rematch if it is that bad...
I disagree, I think it shows the sport is adapting to society, realising it needs to show it takes the safety of fighters as seriously as it can. British ring deaths and serious injuries caused big damage to the sport in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
It's actually premature stoppages AND very dodgy points decisions which are damaging the sport. We are seeing more and more points results that look like Euro Song contest voting! But you do have to err on the side of caution and refs are right to look after the long term health of boxers.
Dodgy points decision have been with boxing since the invention of the judged decision. There will always be controversy, but the sport is as clean as it has ever been in this Country and Western Europe. Maybe that just shows how bad things once were!
