Hi all, Long time reader, first time poster. I was hoping you knowledgeable lot will be able to help me. I'm currently following a new up and coming British Super Middleweight, he's had 4 fights so far and has won the last 3. I was wondering how long before he can challenge for the British title and who are the big players in that weight category at the moment? I assume first it would be Southern Area champion (as thats our area) and then forward onto British? Who are the top men round here at Super Middle? Thanks all, Chris.
Welcome to the forum :good Which fighter are you following? Super Middle is a pretty loaded division in Britain atm. At World level we have Carl Froch. At British title level we have Tony Quigley (british champ), Brian Magee, Tony Dodson and Paul Smith. Then we have prospects like George Groves, Kenny Anderson, Tony Jeffries, Darren Sutherland and James DeGale. So there's some good contenders at British title level and a very talented crop of youngsters. Edit: Tony Salam is the current Southern Area SMW champ.
It's not that bad of a division to be in. DeGale probably won't even fight for a British title, I'm sure they'll take him some other route. Sutherland is Irish. Jeffries is a light heavyweight. Groves is the main guy to worry about because he'll likely be matched hard and fast like Lindsay, under Hayemaker so I can see him getting hold of the belt. Magee is a good fighter and I'm sure he'll beat Quigley. If your boy is good I don't see major obstacles in at least getting into contention.
Cheers all for that, seems like it maybe worth him shifting weights So how many fights before you can take on the likes of this Salam fella? Is it a case of paying for the fight to happen or having to take on challengers?
