British television networks should be ashamed!

So last week, some of us had the priviledge to watch very entertaining boxing contest between 2 of the top 6 S.middleweights in the world. I had Kessler the victor by 1 round.

At this moment in time, I rank that contest high on the 'fight of 2010' list.

To the point. I find it very sad that Carl Froch hasn't been supported like the likes of Hatton, Khan and Haye have been. Froch puts on entertaining fight, and goes up against good fighters. He doesn't duck people, and even called out Calzaghe before he decide to have a geriatric stand off with Bhop and Jones.

When Froch fought Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell and Kessler, british fans like myself had to search heaven and hell for some form of production. The guy makes his first defense against Taylor, and we have to wait a whole 24 hours to watch them fight, but not on Skysports, or BBC or even ITV1...but on ITV4. The shittest channel out there.

He entered into the Super 6, and where you'd expect top networks to back him- every network turns a blind eyes. Instead, some of us had to fork out £12 to watch it on a pants channel called 'Primetime'. Where as SKYsport and ITV had nothing going on.

He now has a fight coming up against Arthur Abraham. AA has all the support he needs to make this fight happen in Germany. What does Froch have?! An averge promoter in Hennessey. No solid fanbase. No tv network but a shoddy nottingham arena.

Its a sad case that Froch has to struggle alone, where as fighters like Haye, Khan and Hatton are getting all the attention. They get to choose between the 02 arena, Wembley and the MEN.

Unless the power that be, in this country pull together, boxers like Carl Froch won't have a chance to cement their legacy!

Gordon Brown had the audacity to commend Haye and Khan in winning shitty WBA titles, where as froch doesn't get a mention.

carl froch has no technical ability fights like a mummy and isnt easy on the eyes.he is just a brawler with sadly no technique. His fight with kessler is being way overated it was only the last round when things heated up and 1 of the mid rounds but the rest of the fight mediocre.kesslers shot to **** and wasnt that good anyway

none of which should dent his crossover capacity

non boxing fans like brawlers, they dotn give a **** about technique. I've no doubt if all the Hatton fans were exposed to Froch a lot more they'd follow him, but they havent been.

I hear the final leaders debate this week will now focus on boxing in Britain.

this thread is to do with lack of prime time, and especially terrestrial coverage, there are other threads to go and discuss forch's performance, go and post on those threads.

As regards the situation with network t.v. not buying into boxing. You have to assume they aren't buying into it due to costs, and general apathy from the general public towars boxing, i.e. not a great deal of interest. I mean ITV pulled out, sky dedicate 2 hours of boxing on a friday night for british boxing, and can't be arsed to show the full length of an undercard fight, example, conception fight last friday. a great fight from what we got to see of it but surely the full fight would not have been too much to ask for?
To be fair though sky are pulling out the stops in getting fights like mayweather - mosley, which is great, but the sport needs backing from other commercial t.v. network. But, these guys are in it to make money, and it seems these days boxing doesn't. The bbc are willing to show celebrity boxing but not serious boxing, so it isn't difficult to see that they won't be dipping their feet any time in the near future also.

its not sky fault there the only company showing boxing. they have a budget and contracts in place with existing promoters. when the FA cup and england vs ukraine games became available after setanta went under they didnt bid for them either because they

and why should ITV work with Mick Hennesey. Hennesey had a deal with ITV to show his fight cards. he was a co promoter of the Taylor fight and the Super Six, so how comes he was demanding 300k for the Taylor fight and not taking the fee he had agreed with ITV for World Title fights??

remember setanta were still around for the Taylor fight and didnt purchase the right which tells you it was more to do with hennesey wanting way to much cash and not the other way round.

Mark my words one person with new ideas can turn boxing right round all it needs is an injection of enthusiasm to tip the scales

Just the exposure it gives (or doesn't give) the fight. Froch-Kessler should have been a big Sky fight with everyone talking about it but instead its on Primetime with a few thousand watching it.

Its largely down to Hennesey why Froch doesn't have the popularity of Khan, Hatton, Haye (that and the fact Froch can come across as bit of a dour bugger at times).

Too late to do anything about it now unless Fat Mick has a real change of heart of looks at the big picture instead of the fast buck where Frochs career is concerned.

Sorry I shoulda been clear I meant as a viewer, rather than from Frochs perspective from which obviously Showtime does nothing for his exposure and therefore popularity in the uk.

my point was why invest into something that isnt that good. Carl froch was gonna lose sooner rather than later and after the dirrel debacle im not surprised hes on primetime

The TV networks are entitled to choose what to spend their money on. I can't see how they should be ashamed, boxing isn't on the 'crown jewels' list or whatever it's called.

Most boxers lose sooner or later. Froch has been involved in great fights in 3 of his last 4 outings. If those fights were marketed properly he'd be a damn sight more well known than he is now.
