calzaghe was never an undisputed champion.

undisputed....all 4, yes 4, wbo included...belts...all at the same time...have all 4 in your bedroom and your undisputed.....simples.

The WBO was garbage though, still is. But in the mid-late 90s it was considered a joke, like today's WBU/WBF/IBA etc.

No one gave a **** what the WBO thought back then. They were a fledgling organisation with ZERO credibility who had Damiani as their champ. Damiani was ranked in the top 10 but he was a nobody. Tyson was Linear and had beaten the champs of the WBC WBA and the IBF.

No it did not. You're waxing philosophical. The CONSENSUS opinion globally was that Tyson was THE undisputed champ which was correct. He had beaten ALL the fighters that mattered. Damiani was not one of them. And the WBO's opinion meant sweet FA as they were not even around when Mike unified all the titles.

Yes, he was the Generally Recognized World Champion, but as you suggest, which was my point, not without dispute.

As for credibility, well not that I think any alphabet organization should have any, the WBO did have a bit of influence after splitting from the WBA, and Tommy Hearns jumped on board to gimmick his Kinchen fight and keep up with the Ray Leonards...

Yes the Consensus was Tyson was the World Champion, but the fact he needed a consensus opinion, literally proves he was not Undisputed as World Heavyweight Champion!

Again you've missed the point. No ones doubting the validity of some of the WBO's champs. But it has NEVER been a sought after title. Their mandatorys are a joke. So much so that even Frank Warren refused to allow Calzaghe to face Freeman Barr who was ranked by the WBO for some strange reason around the early 2000's.
Matter of fact they're the only organisation to have a dead person in their rankings.
The WBO is a belt that has been notoriously linked to Frank Warren. He made his fighters millionaires off it during the 90's. Much the same way he made some of his fighters fairly well off with the WBU during the early 2000's.
If your going to mention fighters like the ones you have remember to add guys like Artur Grigorian who defended his title against a steady stream of tin cans for 8 years!

Reading through this thread just highlights what a meaningless and ridiculous concept 'Undisputed' has become with all the crap sanctioning bodies.

Andre Ward could beat Dirrell, Froch, Kessler again and then Bute and still not be considered 'undisputed' as Steglitz had a belt. :patsch Pretty pointless.

Calzaghe would have to be considered Undisputed though, he won every belt. Hamed should have been undisputed and the first to do it with 4 belts, politics prevented this of course.

TBooze you're a nugget. Back then the WBO was the same as today's IBU, IBA, WBF etc. So you're saying if a fighter wanted to become undisputed today they'd have to hold all the big four plus all the other little garbage "world titles"?

No I am saying it is unlikely you can ever be an Undisputed Champion, particularly in this era.

If you were around at the time, you will know WBO got a bit of publicity with Hearns/Kinchen, and they took enough WBA officials with them when they split, that they were always bigger and more influential than your IBU's, IBA's, etc...

But my point is, now a fighter has virtually zero chance to be an Undisputed World Championship, thus, to be the Generally Considered World Champion is the way to go to get your kudos.

Can we make it a Ring belt = 2 of the other belts?
Also can an IBO = 0.5 of the other belts too?:yep

I think Roy Jones came closest to holding almost every title but the WBO.
