From what I have seen, The Ring is more corrupt, I did not see DKP buy IBO ratings, but he did buy Ring Ratings for the infamous US Boxing Championship...
Ok I accpet that Calzaghe was not undisputed. Hopkins though cleaned up - WBC / WBO / WBA / IBF. And to Rob Plamer who said if you only recogonised those who held all belts at the same time - you would only have 4 champs throughout history. Not true. In the old days - any World Champion - was thee undisputed World Champion - like Joe Louis or Sugar Ray Robinson, etc These days- yes it is very rare to have a fighter hold all 4 belts - WBC / WBA / IBF / WBO at the same time. Hopkins is the only one that springs to mind in recent times. Just shows how all these titles serve no good purpose for this sport other than the greedy men behind it who get paid the santioncing fees.
Hey Rob, I noticed Randy Turpin is missing from your undisputed list too. He beat the greatest boxer of all time for the middleweight title. Now thats what I call undisputed.
This thread really went off track didn't it. Just to throw in another thing, does anybody find it interesting that the two guys who were top choices for the greatest fighter of the last 10 years, were never technically undisputed champions of any division? I do.
and of course jermain taylor, right ?...who took the lot of him...whatever you may think of the decision..
well, not being smart, but no... it was always going to be like this...champs holding on to belts and not defending against other champs unless massive money was on offer...
Great Britain's and Ireland's generally recognized/considered World Champions... Flyweights: Jimmy Wilde Jackie Paterson Rinty Monaghan Terry Allen Bantamweights: Billy Plimmer Pedlar Palmer Jack Bowker Featherweights: Naseem Hamed Lightweights: Jack McAuliffe Freddie Welsh Ken Buchanan Welterweights: Ted 'Kid' Lewis Lloyd Honeyghan Middleweights: Jack Dempsey Bob Fitzsimmons Randy Turpin Alan Minter Super Middleweights: Joe Calzaghe Cruiserweights: David Haye Heavyweights: Bob Fitzsimmons Lennox Lewis That is a pretty ruthless list, and I would concede there are fair arguments for Stracey, Fitzsimmons (at Light Heavy), and possibly McGuigan and Hatton.
30+ years ago mate. The other Alphabet Boys have enough to answer over that length of time as well. I know The Ring incident was high profile but the WBC/ WBA/ IBF have been far worse more recently than that.
At the moment the ring is the most credible with the others far behing.the wbc has gone crazy lately tony/pac for a belt at 154,morales rated number 2 at lww:nut
