That's what I've been led to believe in the past. But as I said previously, the prosecution would undoubtedly attempt to use the fact that he's a boxer to sway a jury and in the end, it will be down to that jury to decide.

The same guy hospitalized one of my friends over next to nothing when he was only 16.

    Not a nice man.

Back then there were some pubs in Liverpool wher I would honestly rather have taken my chances with five thugs who wanted to beat me up than have the bouncers intervene.

Most doormen do a good job but there are some jobs that will always atract the worng sort of people and this unfortunately is one of them.

Former Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Garry Delaney was jailed for life on Friday for killing a man with a single blow.
Delaney's punch was so powerful that it lifted Paul Price, 23, off his feet, the Old Bailey heard.
Mr Price fell backwards and his head hit the ground with a crack. His skull was fractured and, despite surgery, he died five days later.
Delaney, 35, from Newham, east London, was convicted on Thursday of murdering Mr Price on October 7 last year.
Judge Clement Goldstone QC ordered that he spend at least 11 years in prison - less the 292 days he has spent on remand - before being considered for release.
On the day of the murder, Delaney was working as a licensed doorman at the County Hotel in Chingford, east London, where an over-35s disco was being held.
Alan Suckling QC, prosecuting, earlier told the court that Mr Price and his friend, James Farrell, had been turned away for not meeting the dress code.
They accepted that and returned to the hotel's bar, but the barman thought Mr Farrell was behaving "in a troublesome way" and asked Delaney to remove him.
Delaney sprayed Mr Farrell in the face with a pepper spray, then dragged him outside, dumping him in shrubbery and punching him, the court heard.
When Mr Price remonstrated, Delaney beckoned him over to where his friend was lying and then hit him "without warning or reason".
Delaney "did not hang around and, although he was due to have worked until 1am, he made himself scarce and got into a BMW and drove away without putting the lights on", Mr Suckling said.
Passing sentence, the judge said: "It is often said that a bully is a coward.
"On that night you behaved like a bully towards James Farrell and Paul Price, and when you knew that both of them were injured, at least one of them seriously, you responded like a coward.
"Boxing is an honourable sport but you totally abused the skills that you had acquired as a boxer.
"Your fist became a lethal weapon and you must now pay the price."
Delaney was also given a nine-month concurrent sentence for committing assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Mr Farrell.
Members of Mr Price's family, sitting in the public gallery, sobbed as sentence was passed on Delaney, who made no reaction to the judge's comments.
Delaney had fought at light-heavyweight and cruiserweight and won 31 fights including 17 knockouts, losing 13, the court heard.

I work in the industry and 99.9% of doorman that I have come into contact with have a professional and thoughtful approach to the job. I'd say for every retrd wannabe hard man doorman there are about 60 pissed up ****** wannabe patrons. In blackpool thats how it is anyway. The nature of the job means that it does attract some idiots but they tend not to last and either end up on the wrong end of a kicking or in the nick.

From my experiance you really need to get the full story before making any judgement about the way a doorman has acted - I could tell you a million stories where a member of the public has looked at an incident and made a judgement that the doorman were out of order.

One example that comes straight to mind is when a guy bottled a girl over the head in a club I was working so little jeffro has pushed the guy off the girl. The guy then decides he wants to punch me- a scuffle ensues he tries to punch me in the face gets sent to the floor and then I restrain him so that the police can arrest him and press charges. While I was on the floor with the guy I must have had about 6 -7 people come up to me and say I was out of order restraining him. They were just walking past and hadn't seen what went on just a doorman on a 'civvy'. The girl who was having her injuries tended to was very thankful i'd been there and we're still mates today about 5 years after it happened.

Just for clarification the guy on the video is a doorman- warning a 'patron' to behave himself. Poor 'doormanship' in so many ways but that is the danger of the job.

I always tend to think people's judgement of doormen is clouded due to them usually being rat faced when an incident has/is taking place. Now days most doormen I've come acroos are pretty decent but that does not stop the odd one one from causing a stir but you get that in anything. Look at how many times coppers get abused for being too heavey handed.

I think alot of doormen think to themselves..........."I was a bully at school, how can i still pick on people, oh i will become a bouncer"

I think a lot of what you say contradicts the education you claim to be the beneficiary of.

You have obviously seen some serious sh1t in your time Mr Thomas. I have a lot of respect for people who do the job you do profesionaly.

It should also be noted that the people who go to the greatest lengths tomeet trouble half way are often the first to go crying to the police when they get it.

On the other hand how usefull is it actualy to hit sombody with a closed fist in the average viollent encounter?

When I worked at a bar a few years back I somtimes had to break up fights before the doorman arived (nothing like the kind of stuff you have experienced) and I quickly concluded that the easiest way was to push them through the nearest fire exit and shut it behind them.

    so true..

With regards to respect for doing that job i'd really say that been a doorman is gr8 for self respect and confidence but in reality you do very little for society and other people especially if you do the job by the book. If you do the job with your sole motivation been targetting the bullies that attempt to ruin peoples lives for the sake of a reputation or a story for the boys at work on monday then perhaps then you deserve a little respect.

Been a doorman is a fruitless task if ever there was one and anyone considering a career in it I would strongly advise them to reassess.
