British World Champs

    Just thought id chuck a thread in about the coming months and how great it is too see so many british guys going for top honours.

    We have:

    Carl Froch
    Carl Frampton
    Jamie McDonnell
    Scott Quigg
    Kell Brook


    Fighting for Titles shortly:

    James Degale
    Derry Matthews
    Kevin Mitchell
    Lee Selby
    Jamie McDonnel (unification)

    I think they all have a great chance of winning titles, maybe not Derry so much but potentially could have 8 or 9 world champs by the end of May if they pull it off. Its great to see and with Burns fighting in America he too has a chance to establish himself back up there if he can do it. George Groves and Tyson Fury are others that are on the verge of a shot.

    What are peoples thoughts on our champs and who might have a strap in the coming months?

    At the end of the day, with 4+ "champions" per division, we have a several belt holders but nobody who is the REAL champion in their division.

    That being said, British boxing is looking pretty good at the moment.

    A world title is a world title, people need to stop pining for the days of one champ

    The WBA situation is ****, but either regular or super you ARE a world champ.

    I never class interim champs as world champs though but if you have a world title belt then you are a world champ FACT!!

    Whether or not they are best in their division doesnt bother me too much when Kell Brook is in with manny and floyd who really cares hes not number one or when Frampton and Quigg are under Rigo then number 2 and 3 spots are more than acceptable in my eyes.

    At the end of the day we have 5 world champions with world title belts and more fighting soon so we should be proud and hope they go out and win.

    I am certainly not gonna ***** about the 'real' champ or whine about fake titles and im certainly not gonna take the **** out of their world title belts when the only belt I have is a £4 one from Burtons.

    its silly to count the WBA regular when there is a WBA super champ.

    The WBO and their champion who is fighting Jamie McDonnell don't see the fight as an unification fight, they don't count the WBA regular.

    WBA regular isn't a champion of the world he a champion of those under the super champion


    Just a bad situation, can't knock the guy trying to make his monies and pays his dues but the number of titles in one division from ONE sanctioning body is a joke

    Can give a pass to froch (beat kessler, a legit top 5 SMW at the time) and mcdonnell (questionably stripped of the IBF), but can't give quiggs any legitimacy unless he beats frampton/lsc or wins the super vs rigo

    Froch is a world champion, while Ward is better, he fights once every three years

    For the absolute idiot that questioned whether Froch is a real champion, you need to have your head tested! No one applies to a real world champion more than Froch in boxing today. McDonnell as said before should never have been stripped by the IBF so the fact he has the WBA regular I don't mind that at all, Frampton and Quigg are the same in my opinion, yes Frampton holds a belt with slightly more prestige but neither of them have faced anyone were you would say its a fight they have a good chance of losing.

    That's fair enough, I disagree but I can see where you are coming from, but I cant see how Frampton and Quigg are dissimilar in their legitimacy within boxing at all.

    Why should the WBA get two world champions? If the WBA regular is a world title then so should the interim titles of the other governing bodies. And I'm not sure why you'd stop there either.

    Don't think there is much in it at all, Martinez who is a good fighter but nothing more than that is probably the best fighter on either resume, after that I think Salinas and Otake, then Avalos but I don't think either of them have even a half decent resume to be honest, but I do like and rate both guys quite highly

    Martinez and Avalos are clearly better as any fighter Quigg has ever fought.
