Currently there's 7 which I believe is the highest since the days of Hatton and Calzaghe. Janes degale Kell Brook Terry Flanigan Lee Selby Carl Frampton Scott Quigg Jamie Mcdonnel Plus 3 interim champs Derry Matthews Chris Eubank jr Lee Haskins And also we have fighting for titles soon George Groves Tyson Fury Billy Joe Saunders Frank Buligoni Anthony Crolla All in all looking good. Please chuck in anything ive missed though. Nice to see this many champs and people getting title shots. Out of the 5 with shots coming up Id back 3 to win titles (Fury and Buligoni coming up short).
Can add Andy Lee seeing as he was born in Britain, I think boxing is in a great place at the minute and I can only see more and more champions looking at some of the talent we have coming up the ranks.
I'm just looked. Is Buligoni not fight chudinov anymore? Frampton is British Lee im not sure. He's listed as Irish. Born in London to Irish parents so who know what he's classed as.
Fight between Buglioni and Chudinov is going to be re-scheduled because Chudinov is injured. I would be very surprised if Buglioni would take it.
Frampton is northern Irish, and Protestant Northern Irish at that. Which in turn makes him British. He very much considers himself to be a Brit..! In fact id go as far as saying a lot of his friends & family would fight over the matter.
A lot of his family would yeah i agree with that. Frampton couldnt giv a flying fook though. He isnt interested in any of that, he just wants to box and to win. Heard him and Barry talking about this plenty and Barry saying it was one of the things that intrigued him so much over Carl that he was similar and didnt want anything to do with religion or the whole Ireland/Britain thing. Fair play to the boy. I put him and Lee in the category of being one of us. Not british/Irish just one of us other than borders there is no difference in lifestyles/standards between us. Some people love to get on their high horses about it however which i find hilarious
I had a feeling this one would come up. While I agree they are just regular champs under a super champ, they do however hold world titles. Especially Mcdonnel eho just beat the WBO champ So for me they are world champs
Totally agree with what your saying & yep can't say fairer than the kid not being fussed by it all, however.. In relation to this post - he's a British boxer & should be counted as such. As for Andy Lee, well he's English born & Irish by descent, in those cases I say let him fly the flag of whoever he wants, I am in the same situation & firmly consider myself British.
Well for me McDonnell has done more then enough to prove he is a world champion, second best in the division currently? Some would agree, others may not and I think Quigg if he beats Martinez has the same right to that too. I think you can win a world title or whatever and have little or a lot of credibility depending on the belt but I think who you beat to win the belt and who you beat during your reign as champ really decides if you are a world champion or your credibility as a champion.
Point taken, but we are looking at who holds credible gold not who can be considered a world class fighter.
