Are you ****ing with us? Seriously?? If Severn has average striking then Brock belongs in that "can't strike for ****" category. You can't tell me Brock has above average striking.. If mass in the ring/cage was what it came down to then Lesnar would be P4P.
Dan Severn trained Don Frye at college wrestling. He also trained Frye how to have an epic moustache.
Nope. Severn back in the day was a proto-type. Apart from Shamrock he was the only 'wrestler' that had a submission game and an EXCELLENT gas tank. Brock would have had no answer for his take downs, his wrestling or his subs. Dude would have been subbed pretty quickly.
Frye's stache looks like a modern version of Charlie Chaplin's.. Of epic proportions, yes, but Dan is the alpha and the omega.
Interesting matchup. UFC came along a bit too late for us to see the very best of Dan Severn, and by 1995 he was in his late 30s. I remember reading him say he'd never made a clenched fist prior to his first UFC bout. But the guy was a bear. Trouble is Brock is a much bigger bear who can punch a whole lot more effectively.
Dan Severn coached Don Frye at college wrestling and probably numerous other guys who were really good. Who the **** has Brock coached! Huh thats what I would like to known that people claim he knows so much about wrestling.
Because Severn isn't particularly good. He was good waaaaaaay back in the day but times have changed. The fighters of today are much better than the ones in Dan's heyday and are much better athletes. Brock is just too naturally gifted and against a guy like Severn it wins him the fight. I don't know much about wrestler but I'd bet Brock is a better, stronger wrestler as well. Could very easily be wrong on that though.
He's not. Head to head Brock would get tooled if it was under 'Freestyle' rules. Severn is/was an infinitely better wrestler than Brock. It's only MMA fans that over rate his NCAA credentials which never translated into MMA, and he was years removed from.
Ahhh the good ole ''Evolution'' schtick This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Not exactly Dan's era of fighters in those gif, but automatically counting out older fighters because the athlete's have evolved is a lazy point. The quantity of quality athlete's in MMA has of course improved, but not necessarily the quality of the fighters skill sets Dont automatically count the old guys out using a Joe Rogan soundbite. If you look at it objectionably, Dan has the superior wrestling credentials and the undoubted advantage of not adopting the fetal position when taking punishment You cant count out the toughness of fighters who fought in the era when the clock counted up
You know what's become more and more apparent over time? How much tougher the fighters of the past in early MMA were as compared to now. Why is/was it that these guys were just insanely tough and would take and give the most hellacious beatings and barely blink? The same is true of the Japanese fighters.
Interesting point isnt it. Another one is that only 3 out of the 7 Champs in the UFC made their debuts after Griffin v Bonnar 1, the supposed catalyst for the ''Evolution'' of MMA. And in the case of Frankie and JDS, it was a matter of months
