Are Brocks wrestling skills good enough to combat Mir's submission skills? I'd presume Mir would have the superior stand up game but will that really matter when Lesnar takes him down. How do people think this fight plays out? I am picking Lesnar - he is an amazing athlete and Mir is past it
I don't proclaim to be an expert or even knowledgeable. Logic dictates however that Dana White and company would prefer Lesnar to come out on top here. They have been promoting him on a wide scale as a man who could possibly dominate the HW division for many years to come. They may have put the cart before the horse here so to speak. Frank Mir may have seen better days in the past. But he is still a submission expert and a highly dangerous and risky opponent for a novice like Lesnar. It will speak volumes for Lesnar that he is a serious talent if he beats Mir so early on. They could have chosen a so callled tomato can but they instead chose a former UFC heavyweight champion for this fight. I'm gonna watch it and I almost never order pay per views in MMA or boxing. I want to see it.
I don't know if I would call it Brock's trial by fire but Mir is not a slouch. I'd like to see Brock win and energize the division. There is a void in the UFC now that Randy is gone.
Big void. Those that are any good lack charisma and those that are not too good have been found out plus with the likes of Cro Cop going off the boil the UFC needs someone to build around and Lesnar would fit that bill. He has a decent task against Mir who will offer a good step up in opponent especially for a relative rookie. Lesnar if he has any hope of success in the sport needs to make this fight count and not flunk out or bore us to death. The real question of how good Lesnar is going to be will be his stand up skill in the fight.
Exactly. Vera looked like he could make some noise but Fizzled against Sylvia. Lesnar could provide some spark if he has the skill.
The guy has a personality and he is well known by non MMA fans and obviously the exceptional wrestling background, we just need to see what he's like in the octagon. Hopefully he will give us something to get excited about and not be a damp squib. He is big enough for his wrestling to make a mark but needs very good stand up skills to make a mark in the elite.
the way lesnar is being thrown in the middle of some big name fights already is kinda interesting, remember bj penn getting a title shot after only like 4 fights, if and i do say if lesnar wins and gets a couple other big names we might see it happen again
He certainly has the cross over appeal. Alot of non MMA fans would probably tune into see him. I was looking at one of the muscle mags last night and saw a front page pic of him and a 5 or 6 page article.
I think Lesnar appears a very professional person and physically gifted. I think it is a great matchup and as long as he doesnt make any technical errors in his attack then Lesnar will easily smash Mir
The problem with lesnar is that while he may bring over some mainstream fans... theyre gonna tune in and see how Lesnar fights... and his style is going to be boring. Take you down.. lay on you.. and throw a bunch of chipping shots. Grind em out..
As opposed to taking someone down and holding them til the ref stops or the round ends. Don't forget pacing aroudn the ring and not actually fighting. If he gets on top and passes guard while dropping punches like his first pro fight then there won't be anything boring about it.
Im more interested to see what Lesnars stand up will be like. Will he be able to use any kicks. What will his hands be like. Will he be able to punch with authority and with correct technique.Or will he simply "Spear" his opponents and GNP them from the mount.
