I keep hearing that boxers have no chance against MMA fighters in an MMA fight... But this is not the case as a 50 year old Mercer was able to defeat a former UFC champion in Tim Sylvia. Personally, I think that boxers have a MUCH greater chance being successful in an MMA ring than MMA fighters do in a boxing ring. But to put this in perspective, let's say Brock Lesnar decided to take a risk like James Toney, but instead of fighting MMA obviously, he fights in a boxing match where he would easily make more money in this one fight than likely his entire career in the UFC. Bob Arum and other promoters would be salivating at the opportunity to sign Brock Lesnar and make this fight happen. They are smart though and realize that unlike MMA, it takes years of experience for a boxer to make it to the top, and they would realize that Lesnar will likely never get to that level. Realizing this, they sign him up to fight with Lennox Lewis, a retired former champion who is willing to give it a shot. Put it into perspective, James Toney's first fight in MMA will be against MMA legend Couture, so it's not like this is completely out of the realm of possiblility. So would a current prime MMA champ be able to reciprocate what an old and retired former boxing champ in Ray Mercer was able to do and defeat a former champion. What are his chances, and who do you favor in this boxing match? Keep in mind that Lennox has been out of the game for years now.
Well first off you set up Brock Lesnar's history wrong. He was a very accomplished real wrestler, National champion a few times so it did take him a while to get to the top and be an elite fighter, it wasn't like he was a hulking unskilled mass. That said, Lennox Lewis would starch him within 1 round.
True, but he hadn't wrestled competitively for years, and had no previous experience in MMA fighting before signing with the UFC.
top level wrestling is the BEST skill set/xp to have for MMA and the guy did get a camp in before his first fight but, boxing is not MMA is not boxing...
I don't know if I necessarily agree with this. I think the ability to stop a takedown is a necessary skillset, but wrestling didn't help Maia against Silva at all, and Maia is a serious wrestler.
there will always be exceptions, and in MMA everyone loses (even if it's a fluke) but if you had to have one skill set to bring into MMA (without specifically training for MMA from the beginning) wrestling has shown to be the easiest and most successful crossover skill set (in general, or course you will find some outliers)
Even an out of shape old Lewis knocks out Lesnar in 1 round, and im not being sarcastic,Lennox wouldnt even have to train for this.
if brock could catch lewis into submission brawl, lewis will lose but every lewis punches could KO him anytime you know, in a fight like this, momentum is the key
The thread says boxing match so quit talking like Fedor could do anything here Lennox knocks out Lesnar in one. Then FEDOR could come out for the 2nd and get his ass knock the **** out. Lennox 2 kos over 2 fighers in 2 rounds:bbb and im not even a Lewis fan.
