I'm actually really scared for this fight. I Just have this feeling Carwin will catch Brock and then its night night
Been watching Brock. I forgot how agile and nimble he was. How well he could time big punches. How his posture and positioning are impressive. How hard his blows are. Nevertheless, I think Carwin is also fleet of foot, with terribly heavy hands and good with physical control. Carwin looks to have an edge over Brock in JJ. He got off his back against Gonzaga and has a Purple belt in JJ.
I'd agree about the BJJ level with one caveat. Brock doesn't train BJJ with a gi. And you're only getting belted/promoted if you train with the gi in BJJ. So, we really have no idea as to Brock's BJJ level in terms of belts because they're immensely different systems. Similar but different. Yeah, I'd agree that Carwin maybe has the edge but I wouldn't say it's a certainty. Brock has been doing BJJ since 2005 (or early 2006), and that's a decent amount of time to get good with the top coaches available.
Brock looks smaller now and sporting some love handles, and not at all as massive as what he used to be. Overeem would probably outmuscle Brock. I dont know where your coming up with these hard punching theory, Brock hasnt really one punch KO anyone, especially not in the same fashion as Fedor and Overeem. Well thats not completely true. Most teachers refuse to promote without the student having spent time training in the GI but I know from my school you can get promoted to Bluebelt without training with the GI (I personally train in the GI and got promoted) although there is no Purple Belt promotions for guys strickly doing No GI. Rashad Evans was GAVE a Blackbelt from Rolles Gracie without ever training in the GI hence the reason I save gave. It depends I guess on who gave Carwin his Purple Belt maybe I know he spends alot of time at Jackson's and ive never seen them practice in a GI but I dont know what he does at his other gyms he trains at.
I dont think its fair to say Brock doesnt have 1 punch KO power or hasnt really one punched KOed anyone considering his lack of time in the cage. 1st fight vs the Japanese fella he took him straight down and pounded him out, if you combine the 2 Mir fights they stood for what 2 minutes combined ?, he did KO Couture albeit a older Couture whos been KOed twice by a smaller fighter in Chuck Liddell years before that, dropped Herring basically making him do a backflip and breakin his orbital bone agianst a guy whos never been KOed by punches standing and thats his whole career. Now I agree Overeem and Fedor have more power but Fedor has 30 plus fights and got to prove his power vs lots of tough guys and Overeem has over 50 combined K-1 and MMA bouts and stopped some of the best from both sports.
Very true. I know I'm not belted because I don't train with a gi. I know it's getting to the point where some no-gi systems are being developed along with belting systems. But they're very, very few and far between. I know Dave Camirello has one, and I believe he calls it Guerilla Jiu Jitsu and it's primarily no-gi techniques. And yes, I should have been more exact, I suppose, but the percentageof BJJ schools that'll even give you a belt for no-gi training is very small. Guess you're at one of the few. And the idea of no gi grappling on a large scale is pretty new. (Yes, I'm aware they did it, but it was very sporadic and done sparingly) ADCC is always awesome to watch, I try and catch it when I can but it's kinda tricky to know when/where/how to watch.
It is difficult to find. I havent been able to find any of the matches from the 2009 ADCC tournament yet.
The one I want to see is when Vinicius M caught PDP with a flying arm bar in something ridiculous like 13 seconds...that's crazy!
Jimmie no matter how you slice it Brock has no actual KO's a few TKO's but thats not what we are talking about. Add that to the fact that Couture held him to the cage for a bit on a couple occasions in there match I see Carwin winning this in much the same fashion as he did Mir.
