I think even they knew the backlash he'd receive wouldn't be worth it, but one can almost guarantee that the thought crossed their minds. They chose Wawrzyk at one point for crying out loud!
According to wiki, he's ranked number 23 in the WBC rankings. He's been holding one or two of their lesser belts for quite some time.
I don't know Bro., MirkoFilipovic is Peruvian. His dad got him a full action poster of Bronco Billy for his bedroom 20 years ago.
Tired of what? Do you watch his fights? Is someone forcing them upon you? Boxing is a profession. There are Brits with records like 10-101 who make a living as professional opponents. They don’t even try to win rounds, just coast and spar and try to make the distance so they can fight again right away. He’s doing this because he can, because he likes fighting, and he’s winning. One doesn’t have to be a world champion or even have any realistic prospects of becoming one to do it as a profession. Why does it bother you?
Where did I say I was tired of it? Where did I say it bothered me? I wonderd if HE ever got tired of it. How much of a living can the guy be making fighting 3 middleweights a year in a gym in Peru with a 100 lb. weight advantage?
OK, this seems to be coming from fantasy land. He hasn’t fought in almost two years. Does he have a fight scheduled that I’m missing? Is Boxrec incorrectly listing the weights of his opponents? They’re over 200 pounds, all heavyweights. And the answer to your questions are rather self-evident, aren’t they? IF he is still fighting, doesn’t that mean he’s not tired of it? And he’s had some kind of WBC Latino belt, so I would guess he’s getting paid something for those fights, and he must think it’s worth the money to take the fights or else he wouldn’t do it, right? If it’s extra spending change or more than you think, so what? You would have hated boxing in the days when people did it for a living and guys with barely .500 records might have 100 fights. Again, what’s your beef? You clearly have a problem with it. If the guy is physically able to get in the ring and handle himself, even against pedestrian opposition, at 50-whatever years old, why is that an issue with you? In what way does it make you feel better about yourself to try to ridicule him? Your life is clearly lacking in some ways.
This is what is called a contradiction, Sport. I was a fan during the tail end of those days, I'm 52 This is a chatboard. We ridicule, Jesus. Thanks Dr. Phil And as to the size issue, here is his last opponent. When Wilfredo Arce fought Wright he was 221 lbs. 3 1/2 years earlier ( the latest previous fight they have his weight listed, I can't remember my login) he was 173. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/47982 You can look for yourself as all of his opponents are exactly what I said, blown-up middleweights.
It’s a contradiction? I was questioning if there was some fight scheduled that wasn’t on boxrec or that I couldn’t find otherwise. So because you have a pathetic life, you decided to create a thread to ridicule a guy who hasn’t fought in nearly two years for still fighting? It doesn’t matter what weight someone was years earlier. You surely know this. People grow. Evander Holyfield was a light heavyweight or very small cruiserweight early in his career. Jimmy Ellis was a bona fide middleweight for a large chunk of his career and became a heavyweight titlist. No, none of Wright’s opponents are of that stature but he’s not Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson. Message boards don’t have to be forums for ridicule — especially ridicule for no reason. They can be a place for boxing fans to discuss boxing. And to appreciate the sport and the courage it takes for someone to get in the ring at all. Billy Wright isn’t world-beater, never has been, never will be. He’s a C-minus fighter, or thereabouts in his prime, who has mostly fought D-level guys. Big deal. He’s not claiming Hall of Fame status, he’s just a man who has the fortitude to fight and has done so for a long time, probably a guy who’s pursued his dream of being a fighter and done nothing to deserve your (or anyone else’s) ridicule. But at your age he’s been willing to get in the ring with professional boxers, which is a helluva lot more than you can say. Clearly his doing so makes you feel insecure and inadequate, which is understandable. I hope it makes you feel better about yourself. Merry Christmas.
Undefeated since 1998, with some good wins in the 22-0 (KO 20) win streak Fighting doughy South Americans is not as flashy as PPV, but it surely beats the boredom of aging away in some declining town...
