Well he said this is his last fight at SFW "will be given time to lose the weight." how much time? a week? Lol 3lb+ is a liberty to be honest, you know well in advance if you are that far away from the weight. Got to feel for Vicente Escobedo.
He's always looked huge for the weight, he spoke of going up after this fight so not that shocked. Suppose it makes the fight tomorrow a little more interesting. But will he even try lose the weight?. Not for me he's already dropping the belt. So he'll lose a pound and then agree a fee and title on line just for Escobedo.
Dan Rafael ‏@danrafaelespn "Being told by those in Cinci that Broner will lose title on scale. They're negotiating a max weight for a Saturday weigh in and a $$ penalty"
What's really annoying is that they don't let the other side know a couple of days before that they just ain't gonna do it. Then they could always agree a weight then, as opposed to Escobedo losing his weight and then being left with a dilemma as to whether to just **** Broner off or agree a Saturday weight so he can still get paid.
I think if you miss a weight by that much you should not get paid. A couple of ounces I can almost forgive, although it could be said it is still completely unprofessional but 3 1/2lb is not even close.
See Broner knows his size is a factor, I mean he dwarfs most of his opponents he's extremely big on the shoulders compared to his opponents. Sounds like this was calculated, Scummy move.
agree, there is no way that was a miscalculation. i am actually a little bit of a fan of Broners but this is out of order.
scummy move, from a scummy guy. & to think Burns got slated here for moving up when the time was right:-(
Fights where this should not go on records. Its unfair for the opponent as he can either take extra money and likely a defeat or pull out of the fight and let down all the fans. Fighters who come in this over weight should be stripped of there purse and pay the opponent a percentage of there future purses for the next couple of fight. That would be in an ideal world but as we know the only thing in the boxing world is money
It seems to be the GBP way though sadly, they have done this a fair few times IIRC. Hatton against Canelo being one and that was a utter pisstake IMO.
