I think it's a competitive fight in all honesty. Broner is much better than I thought he was. Now, people that already thought he was very good now think he's some insane natural and fact is, he ain't. Very good though, and interesting future. Rios-Broner-Garcia-Matthysse could be a ten stone division to rival the one we had a few years back. Whilst that was more quick feather fisted guys (and Urango and Maidana) that would be four solidly skilled offensive beasts with varying approaches going at it and would be wonderful to see any of those matches take place. I wouldn't usually say this but I hope Broner 'does a Guerrero' and moves straight up. In fact, Guerrero should've been down at 140 as well IMO but still I reckon he'll beat Berto anyway
140 lbs could deliver a wealth of terrific fights. You can add JMM, Pac, Bradley and even Lopez into the mix too.
Josesito? Nah. Welterweight used to be deep and amazing! Now they're all cutting...welterweight is full of what would've made up the universally derided junior middleweight division
No love for Lopez Flea? Tell me you weren't entertained in that Ortiz fight! Not talking ability here but about making fun fights. Ajose is another.
Demarco is such a nice guy, but Broners smug little grin he kept flashing early doors brought out the mexican in Demarco, & suckered him into a toe-to-toe slugfest. Demarco was having success at range upto this point, & making Broner look small, & pretty ordinary. However, once Demarco got angry and fought on the inside with Broner? I must admit I was impressed. Broner had a high workrate, & he was very accurate & heavy handed to boot. Sinking those uppercuts & hooks to the temple in viciously... I couldnt help thinking about Ricky whilst watching Broner looking great taking Demarco apart on the inside, & Ricky Burns wouldnt have stood there eating uppercuts. First one that landed, Burns would be back on the outside getting a breather, clearing his head using the ring, & sticking that jab into the smaller Broners face. Martinez has Burns hurt more than once, but Rickys boxing brain would always kick in at just the right time & he would glide out of trouble. Burns is huge at the weight, & unlike Demarco, he would use his smarts to make that size count, Broner will have to lean back so far the back of his head will be touching his heels to stay away from Rickys long range jab & slashing hooks. Broner looked great last night, but it told us NOTHING about how he would handle the problem(see what I did there?) of suckering Burns into an inside fight. Broner knows it too, & thats why he wants the fight in the USA. Too risky letting Ricky do his thing in front of a home crowd. Im not saying Burns would win or Broner would lose, but **** this character assasination of Ricky Burns by some people on this thread, even using Froch's resume as a stick to beat Ricky with, when the fact is that there arent many in boxing who has fought the amount of big fights that Carl has. Poor show from the haters.
Broner might be shorter but I'm not sure he's smaller than Ricky. Burns looked massive against Mitchell and Burns is a big lightweight but not sure he'd look all that next to Broner.
:deal Some sense, yeah at the start Demarco fought with his jab at distance then completely went off the rails, i was shouting at the screen " Telling Demarco to keep his distance but alas. Some boxing fans are like fashion, also guys over here get too underated out of fans fear of being wrong whereas across the pond be it north or south they get overated on the basis of its better to be safe than sorry
Josesito Vs Ajose: now that would be quality. The winner of that? Well I'd want to see them get another top fight, yeah As it stands, 2nd rung guys capable of taking a gutsy ass kicking against the very best.
I believe they mentioned on the HBO showing of the fight that Broner although moving up in weight outweighed DeMarco by 5 lbs on their unofficial scales. Not sure if they showed the weights though.
honestly I can't see him compete with the lightwelters, Broner dreads pressure and those who can actually hurt him when they hit him. Matthysse will hit him, and hit him like he's never been hit before, and thats just one
I dont get too angry about people who fall in love with the whole Broner thing though, no doubt the younger boxing fans here will love all the combing hair antics mixed with the G talk & the guys undoubted talent with the HBO hype machine thrown into the mix for good measure, its just that when I read people on the same thread saying Burns is becoming 'a laughing stock' that I take offence.
his strength is one of his strengths, thats an overlooked quality, look no further than Scott Harrison or Ricky Burns(at lightweight) as examples
Broner...small? Now I've heard it all. The guy was one of the biggest super feathers I've EVER seen. He was gigantic, I have absolutely no idea how he did it, its a minor miracle the way he's built. At lightweight he's still huge.
