Its not though, not right now. Ward has issues with drawing fans and money. Love Ward, hate Ward, the numbers are the numbers.

Plus the big impediment right now, is Ward wants his terms and the larger split. Thats why he naysays Golovkins "star" power. GGG Team will fight Ward in NY or Vegas at even split, but they arent going to Cali for 60/30. Ward is not PPV either, so no upside there - just whatever split of purse HBO wants to give and in Cali Ward will take the gate.

Thats why that fight is not in the cards. From the perspective of people who want to see the toughest matchups - yeah Ward-GGG makes sense. But it makes no business sense at all for anyone but Ward, who would be fighting someone more watched than himself on his home turf which would drive up his gate take by leaps and bounds.

The fight is not in the cards because Golovkin would probably lose and he wouldn't receive a life changing amount of money. On the other hand, Golovkin would receive a good payday against Chavez and would have a good shot at winning. In all likelihood, a Ward vs. Golovkin fight won't happen anytime in the near future.

theres a difference in mentioning someones name once when asked a question and calling someone out. GGG's "call outs" are hollow

This statement makes no sense in this context, what are you referring to?

Golovkin-Ward will happen early to mid 2015. Wards talking, and GGG team angling for PPV or lineal is all part of the game jockeying for negotiating position.

If GGG is either PPV, or lineal champ then Ward cant dictate terms. Team GGG can then call him out on their own terms and Ward has to accept or duck.

But they arent alone in that. I have said it before, and will say it again - Ward will never fight another high profile fight versus a known opponent in Cali again. For many reasons, money being one but not the only one.

GGG may in fact lose to Ward. That is yet to be seen, and not really materiel to the topic. But in terms of that fight, or any fight happening with a known entity - it comes down to getting Ward out of Cali.

Being lineal champ has nothing do with dictating terms. Neither does beating Jr. Martinez is the lineal champ and beat Jr on PPV. Even still, Cotto is dictated all the terms to him. Ward vs. Golovkin will not happen anytime soon. Not only is Ward a better fighter and has all the attributes needed to beat Golovkin, but Golovkin is more liked by the fans. If any negotiations ever took place between the two, Ward would get blamed if they fell through no matter what. With that in mind, I can't see Golvokin's people actually making a real effort to fight Ward, when they can make good money fighting easier fights. I hope I'm wrong, but this has the looks of one of those fights that look good, but never happen.

Ward is the eventual target of Team GGG. Whether fans or pundits think he will win or not really doesnt play into it. I think the fight happens, and I hope the fight happens.

Cotto was able to dictate terms largely because they knew that Martinez is almost done and desperate for retirement money. Plus his last fight was not PPV, and he didnt look good in it.

Maybe you will be right, but for now I think that the fight is in the cards. I think it is important to remember that among popular fighters, Floyd in wanting to protect his 0 at all costs is the exception not the rule. And he is like that largely because he is already considered the best. Most fighters strive to be the best, and I think GGG views himself that way and wants to prove it.

Note that I am not saying I think GGG beats Ward. Personally I favor Ward at the moment. But the plan is to move to 168 in 2015 if all goes well, and there is no reason to move to 168 if they arent going to chase Ward.

(I have also read on ESPN I think that it was HBO that nixxed a GGG-Ward fight for the time being. Its entirely possible HBO wants to get a few more easy KO/ratings magnets on the cheap before sending GGG up to risk losing his own 0, but something else I say frequently about matchups... is blame the networks not the fighters. Fighters at that level will fight anyone unless their last name is Sturm, its the networks and promotional politics that make or break it.)

What's the status of Ward's contract with his promoter?
Settled and ready to fight, or still fighting it in court?

You can't be serious? Berto's ego is paper thin right now and he has lost 3 of his last 4 against weak opposition.

    Khan got KO'd by Garcia

Berto got Waxed by Soto and Guerrero.

Garcia is the top dog at 140... Soto and Guerrero are no where near that.

I've been watching the sport for a long time. This fight isn't happening in the near future. Guys don't go up in weight to take part in a fight where there is a good chance they would lose unless it is a huge money fight or unless they don't have any other options. This fight doesn't fit the criteria.

Make all the excuses you want. Golovkin will not be fighting Ward anytime soon. Every time his mentioned to Golovkin's people they talk about their desire to stay at 160. Any promotional issues Ward has will be cleared up relatively soon.
