Another Argentinian is going to beat the living **** out of Broner... Maidana popped the cherry(officially) and Matthysse is going to beat anything he has left out of him.
With a "little" help from the judges though. In my book he already had 2 losses before the Maidana fight.
Broner is literally dealing with depression. And Matthysse is 35 now. Will be really interesting to see what happens.
In Broner case even at 130, he didn't seem physically exceptionally gifted. A decent boxer, with an iron chin & no fear, picked up 4 belts at 4 different divisions, when he wasn't supposed to have any, An overachiever of some sort. Especially his unexpected success at 140, skipping divisions is always bad, almost an omen for failure. Broner one of the few boxers that went back to fix this, win or lose, we can expect more from Broner
Well Broner brings excitement regardless, he can try, some Ws & Ls & then face Loma...Whats there to lose & we all want to see Broner vs Loma
There's where I think our opinions differ. Broner is tough, I'd give you that, but the way he won 2 of those were just by handing him the vacant belts against low quality opposition, and a close win over Paulie M (without any doubt the weakest 147 beltholder at the time). Many good boxers could have won titles in 4 weightclasses the way he did it. His win over DeMarco was the only one that actually showed top level talent.
With Margarito being entered into the WBO top 10 this month at 154, and him making clear he wants the 3rd fight between himself and Cotto before Miguel retires I figured that fight would be a no brainer for Cotto. At this stage even a faded Cotto destroys a shot to pieces Margarito, much more winnable fight to go out on than Lemieux.
Agreed he bit more than he can chew & paid the price -literally- catching vicious beat downs for moving up in weight & class. Very few boxers can survive that type of mental & physical torture in the ring & outside the ring, Broner seems very resilient & is still looking for fights that no one wants, which is a great trait. If he picks up belts here & there, its a reward for taking the risk. At this point, moving down in weight is the best idea. Boxers should learn a lesson from Broner, being active & open to any fight, can get you Ls, but you end up picking up belts if you stay in top shape/weight.
