I like the kid, he's a genuine talent and he believes in himself. And wether you enjoy his antics or not (personally i could do without them), he brings attention to the sport and he has ppl talking.

With that said, i've noticed a willingness in some people (notably Ring magazine's Chuck Giampa) to rank him in the p4p top-10 already. Please, dear people. FUKKIN STOP!!

The guy's best win so far is a competitive points win over Malignaggi. Now Paulie's a pretty good fighter, but he's certainly not elite.
Cotto beat him more convincingly than Broner did. So did Hatton and Khan.

Let's keep it in perspective. Broner's good. But i don't see the next superstar/new Mayweather/future p4p king in him just yet. Not even all that close, really.

I think he's in the top 10 argument now. I agree with the overall sense of the OP, and certainly his entry to Ring's top 10 a few months back was grossly premature, but I could see him there or thereabouts now, like buckd said, he's not going to be far below 10 or 12 is he?

Again, where's the resumé to back up all the praise? Did Cotto snif anybody's top-10 when he beat a much younger and fresher Paulie. Maybe he did, i don't remember. I'm just saying, once again, when your best win is a competitive points win over Paulie, you're not elite, at least not yet.

All due respect, but that's ****. If you step up 12lbs and beat a significant opponent that's a significant p4p achievement and is relevant. Speaking as a Ricky Burns fan, I would be absolutely ecstatic if he was able to step up and shade Paul. For a guy who was boxing at super-feather a year ago to beat a relevant welter is a very fine win indeed.

On the other hand, Donaire just lost his most important fight. He's my current #10. I could see an argument for Broner being above him (though it isn't my argument, I have him lower) based upon his middling resume and talent - i think that would be a reasonable point of view now.

Let's flip it - where would you rank him? Do you have him in your top 15? If not, which fighters would you have ahead of him? That is, which guys who are outside the top ten do you think clearly rank ahead of him.

If it's that ridiculous, you should be able to post at least 20 other fighters who are more deserving to be in the top 10. If you can't, then he's pretty close to the top 10, and it becomes an arbitrary thing, a matter of opinion, but certainly not a farce or an outrage.

Yeah I could name 15-20 easily who should be ranked ahead of him.

And that's saying something since I value weight jumping a good bit.

Bottom line is that Broner's resume is extremely weak; DeMarco, Paulie, Litzau, Escobedo, Rees... Pretty damn thin.
