I think people are missing out on a few things. 1, these fighters are here to make money and the networks are providing the bulk of that money. 2, HBO has set aside a date in June for Broner. 3, Burns is caught up in a promotional battle and won't be availalbe in June, Matthysse and Peterson are fighting in late May, Garcia and Khan are fighting in late April, and Rios is with Top Rank. So essentially, Broner can sit out untill fall and wait on one of these guys and not get paid, or he can fight some also ran at 135 or 140. Instead of these options, his promoter and HBO are pushing for him to go up to 147 and fight a title holder there. I don't see what the problem is. It's not like he can't fight one of those other guys later if he does fight Paulie. If one of the top guys at 135 or 140 are willing and able to fight Broner in June, then GBP should pursue that fight. If that's not the case, and it doesn't look like it is, then Malignaggi is a damn good option.
yeah that's exactly how I see it. In a perfect world, I wanted Broner to fight 2-3 more fights this year like Donaire did last year and beat the fellow titlist at 135 and then move up and fight the Petersons, Matthysses and Garcias of the division. Him jumping up 2 divisions is almost the worst case scenario Good point. I don't think Paulie will win, but I just think people are being too hard on him. Especially vs a guy coming up 2 divisions
The *******s are like a Borg collective. Gander sustained a mortal wound and Lance felt it, flying in at warp speed from clear across the galaxy.
Paulie is slow, has poor defense, and his entire offense is based on a pitty pat jab. He's a C level fighter and loses to any top 10 welter.
I think he's very lucky to have acquired welterweight gold, but that assessment is overly harsh. He was never quite as bad as C level, even during the dark ages with McGirt in his corner.
OK dude...my bad for simply throwing a wrench into your post. Make sure you don't break your neck or back trying to suck your own dick. :smoke
He's never been any good at all. He's not slick. Not fast. Not powerful. He's a club fighter with a big mouth.
I don't think this is even remotely true, but I will play.... Skipping over 140 would be a HUGE mistake... HUGE! Without a signature fight and he skips the hottest division with the most competitive fighters? Talk about hard to justify. IMHO, there is so much money there for him at 140 it would be foolish to fight Malignaggi and win a lopsided fight. I won't believe this until I see the promos.
