I mean, to me it was obvious that he was more intent on making the fight look easy that actually working hard and dominating. I think he has the tools to have hurt Paulie a lot more seriously if he wasn't trying so hard to look good doing it. I think he also was a little unsure of himself and his ability to go 12 Rounds, so he tried too hard to pace himself. I am extremely disappointed in his performance but expect him to fight a lot better next time. If anyone is expecting him to be that lazy and flat-footed against more heavy-handed fighters, I think he will surprise you.
I expected more BUT let's not forget this was his first fight two divisions up. The fight was close but if I had to choose which shoes to fill that night, it would have been Broner. He looked much sharper. Broner's mistake was he was headhunting and trying to prove to Paulie that his punches were not hurting him. Where were the usual body shots? Broner was too confident. Paulie got under Broner's skin and that changed Adrien's game. I'm not saying Broner is THE next best thing but it's way too soon to judge or dismiss him off this one fight at this weight. It usually takes a couple of fights to adjust to the division change.
I thought Broner fought really well in this fight. However, my perspective of Broner is much different than most. I was never as high on him as most people are, so I don't have the same expectations. He basically moved up 2 weight classes & he beat the best fighter he has fought so far in his young career & ****ed his girl.
He's your standard HBO/ GBP hype-job. Did you not realize this when Ponce De Leon boxed his ears off.
I don't want to come off too harsh on him- Broner is better than most 23 year old fighters, and he does still have plenty of time to get better. He's got to quit believing his own hype that he's anywhere close to being the 6th best pound for pound fighter on the planet, though. That hype is helping his bank account, but it's not helping him as a fighter. For as much as he wants to talk about being the next Mayweather, he should emulate more of what Floyd did to build himself up and how he handled himself as opposed to what Floyd does for fun now that he's earned it. Broner wants the limelight, but I'm not convinced he's got the gumption to put in what Floyd did and ever live up to the hype he's getting.
I certainly did'nt see it like you did. I dont think it has anyting to do with him trying to look good by making it look effortless. The man was getting outworked and all he had to show in response the first half of the fight was nodding everytime he got hit that it was'nt hurting him. He was nodding like thats supposed to give him back the points! :nut If Broner was pacing himself, it was a stupid thing to do. The fight was razor close and the decision could very well have gone against Broner, especially in Malignaggi's backyard.
i think the fight was fun to watch and the lead up was not bad either. paulie thinks he was robbed or the score one judge had was off, id ask for a rematch. but i dont think paulie is up for it.
