I just got done watching a video on youtube by BoxingWasp2 about Adrien Broner and he had a good point. We all know he's trying to imitate Floyd Mayweather, but is that really a bad thing. Yes he should grow into his own person, and eventually he will. Floyd isn't thw worst person to copy your style after though if you're a tall athletic fighter like Broner. He also made the comparison to Sugar Ray Leonard, and this is what made me think. Nobody got on Sugar Ray for copying his style and his bravado after Ali. Sugar Ray Leonard himself even admitted to trying to copy Ali and the original Sugar in every aspect. This content is protected There was another thing I wanted to mention that wasn't in the video, but made me think. I watched the Alexander fight, and he was using the shoulder roll vs Maidana and he looked like Mayweather a few times in the fight defensively when he's fighting southpaws. Before you start posting with your pissed off repsonses, go look at the fight again and pay attention. I even saw him attempt a move similar to this This content is protected The point is a lot of younger fighters (mostly black) are looking up to him and copying a few things. Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell are big examples of this.
why not learn the style from someone who still has not been figured out yet? learning from the best is smart. just like kobe did with jordan
What you are forgetting OP is that most people on ESB hate Floyd and therefore when they see someone copying his style, they don't like it. Imho there is nothing wrong with Broner mimicking Mayweather a little.....same with Canelo trying to do the shoulder roll etc Alot of fighters respect Floyd.
In Floyd's earliest career he was imitating Sweetpea. When he was first starting he was punching a little bit like sweetpea and imitating his swagger. But eventually he stopped doing it when he was 12 fights or something into his career. The the former always influence the new. it's smart he wants to imitate Mayweather, that's a style that is a good one to try and emulate. Ali imitated Ray Robinson and Ali said it all the time that he did...
If he ever fights Mayweather, I'd love to see him try to use it then.....he'd be in f**king trouble lol!
Leonard took aspects of Ali and Ray Robinson's style, but he didn't flat out 'copy' them. There's a difference between inspiration and blatantly copying. You can't do what Floyd mayweather does better or as good as he can. You should develop your own style and do what feels natural to you. Broner's Mayweather imitation is just that - an imitation. I don't see him as anymore then a C level fighter right now.
Floyd's style is very hard to copy...Marquez even said his style is very difficult...Floyd gives you different looks..He doesn't stay in one form..high guard down to the Philly shell...He used to drop his hands and look for spots too, but I haven't seen him do this in a long time...since Baldomir. Broner immitates Floyd's style very well.
There's nothing wrong with emulating his moves or tactics. Floyd is a great subject of study. Problem is, Broner copies his every habit and movement. It has come to the point that he reacts to feints and punches the same way with the same characteristic flinches and micro-movements, and has molded his in-ring vision to fit within the template of Mayweather's style. It's limiting to Broner's potential, potentially dangerous, and takes away from his own identity as a good young fighter.
'he don't know **** bout rolling' how funny would it be if floyds corner just started laughing?! :rofl
A lot my boys try using the pac southpaw style during bar fights and usually get laid out cold with their eyes crossed. I be hitting them with the slick 1-2 piece and I don't have a scratch on me.
