Khan's jab is all about speed. It's why, in his usual stance, he keeps his left arm quite extended (a la George Foreman), so that the punch has less distance to travel when thrown. He mostly just snaps the jab out - again, maximising speed - and never gets any real weight behind it. It's a pitter-patter, shot-scoring type of punch (harking back to his amateur days); not one you associate with having any power behind it.

On the other hand, Brook's jab is for the most part a much more powerful shot. He also has more variety when throwing the jab - he mixes up the speed and power he uses in the shot; he can throw from a traditional guard; he can throw with his left hand low; he double's it up whilst also placing an emphasis on landing to the body with it. In comparison, Khan's is: speed, speed, speed, double it up, speed...

Brook's is a more versatile weapon and, for me, the better of the two.

 

Ortiz would destroy Brook

 

Brook would make him quit like Mayweather and Maidana did.

Khan has a very good fast powerful jab when he uses it that is.

 

It doesn't take Mayweather to beat Ortiz.

Just stand your ground and survive the early rounds, and the fight is there to be taken.... the only time Ortiz hasn't buckled under pressure is against Berto, who ought to have beaten him by stoppage.

Mayweather - he tried fouling himself out of the fight

 

Could you imagine if Kell Brook would have Freddy Roach as a trainer how much more great his skills would be.

Very good post and fair points. You're right that it is a little more versatile but I suppose that to me speed and accuracy are the main pros of a jab and when it comes down to it I see Khan landing his at will and Brook not landing his.

If by "most people" you mean the average guy on the street you might be right, if you mean most boxers....no.

Brook's right hand isn't even that hard.

 

Khan's jab isn't very accurate at all.

It's very quick, that's about it.

 

I'm sure he'd improve like Naz did with Emmanuel Steward.
