Brook: i'm ready for world title

    British welterweight champion Kell Brook says he is relishing the opportunity to move to world level.

    The 23-year-old is set for a world title eliminator at Wembley Arena on February 13.
    He had been due to defend his Lonsdale belt against Michael Jennings in London.
    But Jennings was ruled out with a hand injury.

    Promoter Frank Warren is set to draft in a foreign opponent as Brook attempts to close down a shot at the

    WBO world crown.
    The Sheffield sensation is currently ranked at seven by the organisation, and is looking forward to climbing higher.
    "I was supposed to be fighting Jennings, then Frank told me had pulled out and I had this eliminator instead," said Brook. "I'm so excited and I can't wait for February 13.
    "It's always been my dream to be a world champion and I have trained around world champions at Brendan Ingle's gym in Sheffield.

    "When I was growing up the likes of Johnny Nelson, Naseem Hamed and Junior Witter were my heroes, and now I have got the chance to emulate them.
    "I feel like I am ready for world level and to take the next step in my career. I really wanted the Jennings fight and may be it will still go ahead after this next one, we'll just have to see."
    Warren, who has guided Brook to a Lonsdale belt outright, added: "Kell is one of the most exciting fighters in the country right now.
    "There's a whole crop of youngsters coming through at the moment who are going to push on to world level, and he is one of them.
    "This will probably be an eliminator for the WBO title because I've got a good relationship with them and I tend to guide my guys that way.
    "But boxing is all about making the right fights at the right time, and if an opportunity comes up somewhere else I will go down that route.
    "We got Amir Khan a WBA title fight and other boxers I look after have fought for different titles."
    Warren added that he was keen for Brook, undefeated in 20 fights, to make a long overdue appearance in Sheffield.
    "I did some great shows up there with Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Chris Eubank and Joe Calzaghe, and it's a great fight city with really passionate fans," he said.
    "If Kell fought up there they would get right behind him and that is something I want to do in 2010."

    Warren does realise that Manny Pacquiao is the reigning WBO welter champ right?

    For the fight to be an eliminator don't the sanctioning body need to know and an opponent be named or am I splidding hairs?

    I expect he'd need to face Cotto or Clottey first. And I can't see Warren being stupid enough to throw an untested fighter like Brook, who hasn't faced even a top ten WW, being thrown in against two of the best out there.

    Brook certainly has a great chance of being a world title holder but he is still a prospect and needs several more fights before moving into contender status. Brook should move onto Euro level and then test the waters against someone like Judah.

    So beating Stuart Elwell and Kevin Mcintrye prepares you to win a world title. The kid needs to beat Jennings first and also needs to beat some actual live opponents. He's talented but talent only counts for so much at world level. Shark Infested Waters that is The Welterweight Division he should be very aware.

    Does Jennings actually want the fight. I think not, unless he gets a big whack of cash.

    Ive heard from a friend of mine that making Welterweight limit for Brook is a real struggle.

    Brook was the one that pulled out the first time. There scheduled to meet again so obviously Jennings does want the fight and probably getting decent amount of money to fight Brook. He is a Warren fighter himself.

    i dont think 147 is a tough as it was a year or 2 ago, some of the best fighters are on there way out, i dont expect guys like floyd,cotto,mosely,pacquiao and margerito to be fighting for too long and when they do fight it definitely wont be against an untested no-name like brooks, i think warren would likely steer brook clear from fighters like collazo, clottey,berto

    That's very true Brook's not even ready for the likes of Berto Collazo and Clottey yet let alone the major players. He needs bridging the gap fights by which time as you say the division hopefully for Brook will clear out and be weaker. But in saying that we don't know what fighters will move up once or if he gets to world level.

    He has ability but that's been against really sub standard opponents. I can see talent but i like to see how he fares when in a tough fight with someone taking his shots and making him miss and pay.

    I really like Brook, but he needs to get cracking, he's losing momentum fast. This match with Jennings is beginning to take the ****, they need to make it happen...
