King of Sports? Like cross domination? I never thought about it that way. Michael Jordan but good at baseball or something?
Alphabet titles none of them are lineal titles or anything, Kevin Mitchell, lee Selby.. Are not PPV fighters, and the main event is just brook in a walkover. Meaningless fight which Gavin has done nothing to earn.. Glorified sparring match
There you go again!! UK residents have to pay less than £20 for ppv. I don't mind that at all (it shouldn't be ppv though). Will you be buying it? I hope so! Im sure Kell would appreciate your support (and enjoy spending his share of your score). If you don't buy it, will you be watching it? Go on, watch the mighty Special K (The Ring Magazine's number 1 Welterweight) work his magic against the formidable machine that is Frankie Gavin.
WBC is widely consider the lineal title. Cotto is lineal champ at 160, he holds WBC, despite the fact that probably 99% of boxing fans think GGG is better. Danny Garcia hold WBC, yes he is probably the best fighter also but he is lineal champ. Jhonny Gonzales was seen as lineal at Featherweight before he lost to Gary Russell Jnr and he was WBC. Stevenson was many times considered lineal belt holder even though 80-85% of people think Kovalev beats him and he holds WBC. It isn't the fighter that makes the title lineal it is more the prestige of the green belt that makes it the lineal title.
To be fair Linares is probably the best champion at lightweight now given that Crawford has vacated, or at least I believe he has. Heard he has but whether that was a duff source I don't know.
Many good points on both sides in this thread. One thing we can all agree on is that Hearn understands the local dynamic of the UK. He understands the pride that different parts of the nation put behind their fighters. So with Selby, you have 3 million people in Wales. You could expect 50k tuning in for his fight. Mitchell a proud ****ney, could bring in another 40-50k, Brook a Yorkshireman is deserving of a move to PPV seeing as how Khan, Haye, Froch, Hatton, have all forayed that direction in recent years. Brook will bring another 50k in off his own merit. Then you have Joshua, and let's not forget a very valid fight between Blackwell and Ryder. Absolute stellar night of boxing and in all honesty compared to May Pac. It's not bad.
Follows up Porter with Dan and Gavin... okay. I understand Hearn couldn't secure Khan but he must've known that was a great possibility way in advance. Not exactly unforgivable if he secures Rios, Thurman or Marquez for the next one, he's staying busy and capitalizing on his success I get that but these two wins, assuming he disposes of Gavin are not even 'good' wins, they're okay and keep it ticking over.
It really could not be any worse than last week, however, Sky Sports Subscribers should not be required to fork out PPV charges for boxing already paid for. If the fights cannot be made - fook the greedy cants. Matchroom have failed the Sky Sports Subscribers and PPV is simply another con.
