I think the chances of this fight happening now are clearly better than before, but I would still only put them at 60-40 in favor of it going ahead, so far from a certainty. I don't see any particular public demand for this at the moment and am far from convinced it's going to be a big success. Neither is relevant as a fighter, and to be honest neither is really relevant as a sporting personality anymore either, outside the realm of boxing. If/when it happens I don't see it being anywhere other than Sky PPV. DAZN's subscription model which is not really based around PPV at least for the short/mid term would have no reason to pay for two semi retired mid 30's fighters, neither of whom is under contract with them or Matchroom. Since it's obvious this is their last fight regardless of the result unless it's PPV it makes zero sense to invest as with them both retiring the risks outweigh the reward. Hearn has already given several interviews where he has openly said he wants Khan vs Benn instead and has been extremely vague and non committal on Khan vs Brook so I think it's Sky or it does not happen. For what it's worth, I don't believe Khan would only fight for 5 million + PPV % at this age and stage. That's a negotiating tactic. What's changed is that for the first time he thinks Brook has regressed and physically lost enough of his advantage over him where he feels confident of victory, or to put it more simply he now thinks Kell is shot to pieces and strongly fancies his chances and that will be reflected in the money he is ultimately prepared to take to fight Kell. I will watch out of a sort of morbid curiosity, won't pay to see it though and won't be in any hurry to see it either. I think both of them are so far off their glory days the result is actually almost irrelevant and whoever wins will achieve a very hollow victory.
Khan's wife has just posted on her Snapchat/Instagram that she's about to become boxing presenter for Sky. Whether it's a one off or a long term role, I don't know. Could this be a sweetener for Amir to help get the Brook fight on Sky? Or it could be something completely unrelated that she's somehow managed to worm her way into that role.
Yes, when this fight was touted years ago when they were both closer to prime, there was always the feeling that Khan was effectively ducking by pricing himself out because he couldn’t bare losing to his bitter rival and be more humiliated by a KO loss than ever before. Now it’s the end of the road for both, certainly Khan feels this way, so the payday outweighs any potential beatdown as it’s essentially a cashout with the result having no consequence on his future earnings as a fighter. The only intrigue is that it’s still a 50/50 fight that’s tough to call, so from a punters and spectators perspective it garners interest still albeit more-so a morbid curiosity at this stage.
Given a choice, I'd rather watch YouTube "boxing", I'm so past any talk of this now, I couldn't care less about it but I'll still comment.. Brook and Khan are just two old, past it, shot fighters looking to pad their pensions with a few million and some morons seem quite happy to pay for it. Hearn has zero shame so he will stick it on and DAZN who have been slinging up signs everywhere saying they are changing the game are just being dragged in to Eddies clown world. DAZN must be buzzing, they have paid a couple of hundred million for Eddies back garden fights, Khan Vs Brook and women's boxing. GAME CHANGED.
I love the two completely different views on this matter just a few posts apart. I agree that this has Sky Box Office written all over it. Sky will want a big UK promotion towards the end of the year, and imho Hearn isn't going to offer his DAZN kitty to two fighters with zero future potential on his platform. This explains him talking about Conor Benn for Khan - you test my new star, I'll give you a payday for Brook. With Sky Sports News and wall to wall promotion, it'd definitely get decent figures. But not to me - I'll wait for it to go onto Youtube.
You would think Hearn/DAZN have already made the Khan v brook fight by some of the reactions.if anyone picks it up I hope it is DAZN as subscriber myself.
i thought the thread for what it once should have been aint picking up that much traction no i just dont see it hype buzz intrest relativity value for for cash its all at zero #fansrobbed
I would have loved to of seen this fight happen when they were both at their prime. A real 50-50 fight, I would have said.
I wish these two would just both go away. This fight just epitomises boxing. A fight that should have happened 7 years ago. Both shot to pieces. Both with their hands out asking you for their 20 quid. No shame what so ever. They are even openly honest about trying to get the most money possible. Joshua Fury will go the same way as this fight as well. A fight that should have already happened at least twice and won’t happen until both of them are 35+. Then they’ll expect you to pay 50 quid for it. Boxing is a complete joke sometimes.
so called boxing fans make to many excuses call the fighters out as the paying fan you should have a say any one want to buy a scabby donkey or a dead horse should both do well at the national next year mugs mugs every where
Nah. I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch it and I certainly wouldn’t make time to watch it if I had something else on. I’m definitely not paying for it. The problem for me is that this fight has zero relevance anymore. I don’t care if either of them win. Like back in the day when Brook won the IBF and Hearn was mouthing off left right and centre I would have wanted Khan to win. They were both at their peaks. Would Khan be able to get through 12 rounds without getting clipped? How would Brook deal with Khans speed? Now it’s basically which ever one of them lands a decent power shot first is probably getting stopped. It’s a completely pointless fight. No belts on the line. Both of them are going to take their millions never to be seen again. Look, personally I hold Khan a lot more responsible for this fight not happening because he clearly never wanted it when Brook was still good. But Brook has wasted years of his career chasing this fight. If a fight like this does big numbers and they get paid a fortune all the others are going to be doing the exact same thing.
