Why was GGG holding his WBA belt at todays presser ? Last i heard the WBA did not sanction the bout.

“The Championships Committee and the Presidency have not agreed to sanction this bout as a title fight because Brook has never fought as a middleweight,” said WBA president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza to fightnews.com.

Brook is a complete non ranker at MW so how can he possibly count as a defense ?

According to the rules of the IBF and the WBC , title defenses must be against guys ranked within the top 15 . Brook is not in the top 100.

You can't defend the undisputed championship against a guy with no ranking.

When Chavez fought all those non rankers they were rightfully billed as non title fights

Brook shouldn't be added to GGG's defense count.

    agreed

i love how ggg and his fans pretended to care about the sanctity of the mw "championship" when talk of a cw bout against canelo came up...now theyre dragging up a welterweight who isn't ranked at mw...shameless these guys are...anything for a dollar

That's not true at all tbh. An obvious example is Hagler defending against Leonard.

However I do agree it shouldn't count as a true defence but that's because Golovkin isn't the champion, Canelo is. And the Khan fight was rightly counted as a championship defence for Canelo.

Hagler lost his WBA and IBF belts when he fought Leonard.

Only the WBC was on the line.

Canelo is no longer the Champion.

Actually I think he's being overrated, and grossly overrated at that.

I agree. It is mostly by the same people who hype every GGG opponent once the opponent is selected. Most of them would of laughed at the idea of Brook-GGG before the fight was made anyway.

Yes but he was still considered the champion.

Canelo has stopped being recognised by the WBC but he is still the champion.

You put way too much emphasis on these baubles.

bowe relinquished his title in the same way as canelo. thus one would think you'd draw the same conclusion for him.
