Brook can't make 147 Spence is a BIG welter Let spence have the IBF strap Brook vs Spence in UK at 150
Last I heard Brook said he wasn't going to give up his WW belt at least not yet. So maybe there is a chance at WW for this fight to happen. Otherwise I wouldn't mind a one off fight at 150 with maybe a rehydration clause to keep it close and give us a better idea of what this fight would of looked like at 147.
I hope Matchroom don't pressure Kel to boil back down to 147 to fight Spence after leaning on him to go up to 160 to fight GGG. He dug fast car out of a promotional hole by agreeing to jump two weight divisions. He always has struggled to make 147 and to do so now, after a training camp designed to fill-out his physique, will leave him badly drained. He needs to look at 154 now.
I will say this- Spence's team will be hoping Brook decides to drop the belt and move up. I can't really see Spence's handlers thinking him going to the UK for 25% purse to try and take the title from Brook is a sure thing, especially when you consider the x-factor the atmosphere will bring (look how Charles Martin crumbled practically during his ring walk when he went there). And remember Brook works with some of the best sports scientist and nutritionists in the world so dropping the weight might not be as much of an issue as people are making it out to be- so unless Brook can get a fight next with Khan/ Cotto/ Canelo. don't rule it out happening. One thing I would rule out though is 150. Spence isn't fighting Brook if it's not for a title.
From the interviews I've watched it seems more to me like Brook himself and his trainer are more interested in returning to 147 than Matchroom are of him returning.
No...147 or 154.....150 for what? I get catch weights if they weights are that far apart but these two are not that and does not warrant a catch weight at all.
Brook just fought at 160 He would be the biggest name for Spence Full house in the UK IF Brook can't make 147 then 150 is reasonable
There's no way Brook can get back to 147 unless he has a 10-12 training camp and works slowly to take the weight off.
Hearn said yesterday that Brook could make 147 but he wouldn't be able to perform at 100%. That sounds to me like he's not fighting at welterweight again. Spence is a nightmare - he doesn't bring a lot of money to the table and he's talented enough to beat anyone. From what I understand he can make 147 without too many problems, so he'll stay at that weight with his mandatory shot until someone is unlucky enough to face him in a title fight. Brook v Spence will only happen at 154 and, if Errol can make welter, he has no reason to move up. He can face bigger names (in the US) and have an easier time with them. I want to see Spence v Thurman and Brook v J-Rock.
Brook will get knocked out by Spence if he boils down to 147 or anything that low. It won't even be impressive because Brook already got handled by GGG. I hope that Brook vacates and that Spence fights Porter for the belt or defends against Porter first because that fight will really show us what he's made of. Porter is all types of wrong for him.
Well they know better than any of us, but it seems odd that he would want to go back down to a weight he was struggling to make.
If he can't get the Canelo or Cotto fights (neither of which I think would take a fight v Brook anyway)- is anything else at 154 really that big? Sure there are decent fighters around but I'm not sure he'd make more money than a 75/25 split v Spence. Then of course there is the Khan fight, then a bunch of other fights that would generate more than the next highest pay at 154- Pacquiao, Bradley, Thurman, Garcia, etc. And when people keep saying 'he struggled to make weight' was it ever evident in the ring in the past few years since he's been working with Sheff Uni. I'm sure it what hard work but look at the Porter fight- against a man with great stamina Brook finished the stronger. Crticize the other opponents all you want, but Brook didn't fight like a man who had left everything at the weigh in
Its a difficult situation for kell again.. he has to make the decision to stay or leave 147 at the end of the month before any negotiations for a big fight against cotto canelo khan will be able to happen. He can risk dumping the title and landing one of these fights, if he doesnt theres not much at 154 in terms of big fights and big paydays.. or he can risk going to 147 and possibly not able to make the weight...
