Agreed. But Brook is a different boxer than back when he fought Jones - he could have entered the ring at 160 that night too, but for very different reasons. That near-loss was his wake-up call. I guess we won't know for sure if he can take GGG's power until he gets tagged. Although GGG is hard-hitting, I don't recall many one-punch KOs, Macklin aside. Maybe that's because most opponents go straight into survival mode against him. But let me be clear, I'm not calling Brook to win, but to be GGG's toughest test to date. And GGG is a bully to me because he complains about not getting fights at 160 where the level of opposition is pretty mediocre but shies away from 168 where he would be fighting naturally bigger men. Take a risk brave warrior. He says this is because he wants to unify the belts but in 2016 does that count for much when Daniel Geale is pretty much the best name on your resume? If he was 28, then fine, do that and then move up. But he's in his mid-30s and has 2-3 years left. One thing's for sure. Abel only talked about GGG being better at 168, once Ward moved to 174. And no, I'm not a GGG hater. What I do hate - and I know you're not one - are the fanbois who celebrate him as this all-time great champion when, in fact, he's a very good boxer who has been brilliantly managed into the P4P No1 reckoning. His fight record doesn't warrant this accolade or the love-in I read on here sometimes. I'm old enough to have seen this before, and there's plenty enough fans prepared to buy into it. If he brutally KO's Brook I'll be more convinced, though.
Yeah, he's not a one punch KO type. His power comes from accuracy and technique as opposed to throwing big explosive bombs. The main appeal of the fight to me is mostly to see how Brook actually does at 160 but I'm assuming the worst. If he wants to just sit and dominate 160 that's fine by me. If Canelo didn't exist I think he'd already be up at 168 but he's sticking at 160 for the big money fight imo. Mad how he splits people on this forum though, he's ruined the General section.
Brook will make it awkward for golvokin in the beginning. But golvokin will stop him. Brooks decent but hes not that good. Struggled against porter...a fight i actually thought he lost. And never really had a real test apart from that. Porter put brook in his shell to an extent the same as carson jones. Porters decent but hes a decent welterweight. If kells struggling with him and his style hes gonna be in trouble with golvokin. Who some middleweights dont even want to get in the ring with. Including probably canelo. Someone will beat golvokin. I think hes tremendous. But he will be beat the exact way the eubanks say. Someone will back him up. I think he ll then unravel eventually. Stamina will go etc. Absolute great fighter tho no hype with him...its just that i think the style has weaknesses it relies on being the aggressor in control. As soon as that control gets taking away...it will unravel. I d have said canelo but he has his own weaknesses to be able to do it. Would fancy him if he didnt have problems with his stamina and workrate.
Heard an interview with carson jones saying GGG hits harder with 20oz gloves than kell does wth 8oz. Kell is getting brutalised whenever GGG sees fit.
Golovkin very much IS a one punch guy. Ishida had never been stopped before Golovkin layed him like tarmac. Geale, one-shot-KO'd as he landed flush. Macklin. Rubio. (to the skull!) Wade. He's dropped guys with jabs. Gennady Golovkin is a uniquely explosive puncher, backed up with phenomenal conditioning and extensive technique. Kell Brook is going to become a multi-millionaire for experiencing the fury of a true modern great.
Unless brook gets on his bike and boxes out of skin for 12 rounds which I can't see. Brook may have some success early on with that 1-2 he was timing porter with but ggg is much better at cutting the ring off and he's quite happy to let you land a few punches just so he can land one big one. Brook will put up a good fight but once he realises he can't stop the terminator his corner will pull him out. Fair play to brook for taking this fight but in reality this fight won't go past 5 rounds
I want Brook to win but cant see it. I think he will perform well and come out of the fight with a lot of credit but cant see past a GGG middle rounds stoppage. As many who have fight GGG find out the power he has is something else. It might not knock you down but you get shook up. We now have a guy who hasn't fought at 160lbs before taking these shots. GGG can be hit but there is risk trying to land on him as bombs are coming back. It will be interesting to see how Brook starts this fight. Does he box off the backfoot and try to move around the ring. This will require a lot of energy and stamina as well as its not easy getting away from GGG who cuts off the ring very well. I think Brook has to have a great jab and has to lead getting off first. His feet are the most important thing if he has any chance. He cant try and counter punch GGG but he must hit GGG with something just to see if it makes GGG think twice about coming forward. Brook cant allow himself to be pinned against the ropes and take body shots
Coming in at 160 may be the worst thing for brook. He might be better off taking a leaf out of floyds book. He should weigh in at 150 as close to his 147 but without draining himself, this bulking up is putting him in unknown territory come fight night and all that extra muscle needs extra oxygen. He might be better off been lighter and faster.
I would pick Thurman to beat Brook and Garcia probably does too, not even being the best at your own weight does not auger well when you are going up against a guy who had all the tools GGG has.The idea that he is just a puncher is absurd,he had 350 fights as an amateur losing only 5.
The only thing in brooks favour is the ingle style imo. Will be the only reason it wont be over as early as some think.
