Brook's Eye Damage Was Caused By A Spence Headbutt, Not A Punch. Is An Asterisk Needed?

A little hawk eyed sparrow paid me a visit, and pointed out a glaring missed call by the ref and most fans, including myself initially, in the 8th round. Spence comes in like a wild man and headbutts the living **** out of Brook, right in his left eye, he hit so hard, Spence was even buzzed by it, he was visibly hurt afterward, when Brook landed a few clean shots. Then after the initial flurry Brook seemed to get a little woozy, as if affected by a headbutt and lost steam, then his eye slowly swelled up for the succeeding two minute after the head clash. This little piece of evidence should cast a cloud of doubt over the result of the match, which was being fought on even terms up until then, even the 8th itself was a very competitive close round. But the outcome from the 8th on, was but a foregone conclusion, since Brook and his eye, that was damaged by a headbutt and not a punch, was a glaring bullseye like target, and mentally that had to effect Kell who was coming off of surgery to repair the damage he incurred against GGG, the fear that he would have to endure that procedure again, took its toll, making him far more defensive and cautious. But without that headbutt, would Brook have fallen apart? Who's to know, he was hanging in there right up until it happened, so I think an argument could be made that he would've still been right there hanging tough, and possibly eke out a SD or close UD win, without the damaged eye. Granted, Brook claimed his eye got hurt in the 7th, but how hurt was it? Was it manageable? Most likely. Regardless, a savage headclash like that would clearly exacerbate the issue, in a big, very bad way, it went from being basically unnoticable, to badly swelling in a very short amount of time after the headbutt. Therefore a butt was directly responsible for that particular damage.

SO DOES SPENCE DESERVE FULL CREDIT FOR THIS WHAT SHOULD BE TAINTED TKO WIN?

Watch the video, and you decide. This quite frankly should be the next TKO6.

    Here's the head clash

    Hard one

The fight ended due to him getting beaten into submission, but that was due to the eye damage, so that should be taken into consideration. But on the other hand, if they had gone to the scorecards at the end, Spence would probably have edged him.
AND the fight took place in Britain and they often give TKO wins on injuries directly caused by headbutts and such (which is riduculous, I know) so this isn't really an exception.

I dunno it didn't seem to look completely on purpose from Spence because he was coming in with a shot of his own... even so i think Brook won 5 to 6 rounds clearly in the fight and realistically he should've never took the Spence fight but didn't want to look like a coward after Spence and his fanboys were making out he didn't want to fight Spence.

I think realistically he wanted to prove something even though he was draining himself to 147 lbs. I'd like to see the rematch. Spence is a big welterweight also.

Spence was landing body shots even in the rounds Kell was winning. A couple of those were ''pick em'' rounds for me. I don't think you can take too much away from the Spence win.

I don't view the fight as completely fair though given the circumstances but it was Kell's decision to go up in weight to fight Golovkin then drain himself to come back down to defend his belt.

I think it would be nice to see a rematch at a catchweight in the usa as Spence doesn't have a great deal of options anyway.

Something else to take into consideration, what if the ref had have called the headclash and the doctor stopped it immediately following the round? Since they'd already been through this with Kell once before, you know a Brit doctor wouldn't have hesitated pulling him out. The outcome would've definitely been different.

    Byrd had it 77-75 Spence
    Parris had it 77-75 Brook
    Lopez had it 76-76 Even

The Fight would've been ruled a Split Draw.

I think that would've been the best case and most fair scenario. I think if Brook stopped engaging and made a bit of a meal of it the ref potentially would've got the doctor involved but he kept exchanging and let the action flow.

Brook already has a bad eye from the Golovkin fight.

Head clashes are just part of the game.

Kell isn't done yet . He could well beat Spence in a rematch at 154 . In any case it was a heck of a good fight the first time around .

Dayuuum! and Ouch! That looked like the equivalent of the savage right hand Clenbeturol bomb that Khan ate of a 190lb Clenelo in William goat form.

I've just played and replayed the punch before the butt. Spence throws his left hand over Brook's right shoulder, not at his head, and there is no excessive head movement by Brook which might have caused this. Looks like a set-up for butt to me...

Said it then, said it now, take away the eye injury, i dont believe theres any knockdowns and i think Brook takes a decision. Brooks got Spences number.

No I don't think so. Against Golovkin when the eye went, Brook repeatedly started dabbing it with his glove. Same in the Spence fight. After the headbutt he doesn't do that.

Whenever someone cuts or hurts their eye, the first thing they do is paw at it with their glove.

Regardless, Spence beat the **** out of Brook fairly.

That was the right, his left was injured in the Spence fight, clearly by the head clash, yes head clashes are part of the game, and in matches where they're a factor and are appropriately called as one, then the match usually ends in a technical decision. This was a clear missed call by the ref, so it does cast a shadow over the outcome to a certain degree.

That fight was in the balance before that injury, on my card Brook was ahead but Spence had definatly got the upper hand over the previous 2 rounds, looked like he had found his rythmn and sussed Brook out a bit. The injury was a damn shame and stopped the fight in its tracks and i was really enjoying the fight. It was a clear accident too.

If it had been stopped cuz of the headbutt i think it would of been called a draw and with the injury a rematch couldnt get quickly made. No point dwelling on such things really now, all we can do is hope they do rematch at some point in the future but Brooks moved up a division and both have other good options, especially Brook at 154.

Just watched round 8 and if there was any damage to the eye prior to their heads coming together it was barely noticeable or at least not easy to see (pun intended). However, after their heads came together the eye swelled up considerably and became very noticeable.
