David Kirby, an ex-kickboxer and brother of Australian Heavyweight Champion Micheal Kirby, is currently my coach at Liverpool PCYC. So far, I have had no trouble learning the basics off him (I have been there for around half a year) but there has been rumors in my gym and in Burwood PCYC (where he also teaches) that his style doesn't work.

At this moment, I only know that he is reluctant to teach me head movement, counter punching and how to parry and bob and weave. Instead, he just tells me to step in after my opponent throws the jab, lean-on his/her shoulder and keep on throwing hook- kind of like what Micheal does on TV.

Can any one add any more info on his way of coaching? What is his rep around here?

    Thank you.

Can you, erm, elaborate please? Do you know any good gyms in Inner West Sydney if I was to change?

For the record- here is a vid of the style David preaches:

Fair enough..well I guess you can just look at the other fighters in the gym? if theres many?..how do they go with that same style and how do you go with sparring?..if your struggling with sparring using that style then there is no use in fighting with that style..Its not a effective approach IMO...I know theres some neighbouring gyms around that part of the west..Campbelltown PCYC,The Grange,Cabramatta PCYC etc etc

Hello everyone this thread is about me I didn't write back sooner because I wanted time to speak for itself . A novice boxer wrote down here on the forum asking questions about me which is fair enough .Firstly I'll start with the video that was posted about 2 boxers that he said I swear by one being Michael Kirby started boxing as a pro aged 30 retiring as the Australian Heavyweight Champion picking up NSW and O P B F titles along the way didn't duck anyone left a respectable record of 10 win 4 losses pretty impressive for never being the home fighter. The other fighter on the video is Alex Leapai now what can I say out pointing a Russian amatuer champion and on the verge of a World title shot go team Lion Heart .Now look Alex and Michael might be crude but they are effective.
