I'm not sure I buy him being able to kick a 300 pound heavybag to the ceiling or catch grains of rice with chop-sticks.

I thought those were Chuck Norris facts, but apparantly some deluded people actually believe that ****. :patsch

Seriously, if you believe that stuff then you are blessed, because you're too stupid to realise your IQ is below 60.

Bruce Lee is the Asian equivalant of wrestling: he looks muscular and people with limited cognitive ability (i.e. children) think that he's the strongest in the world, while his fighting abilities are just as real as Santa claus, which they also believe in.

Here he is pounding the heavy bag. His handspeed (no gloves) is slower than most heavyweights with 10 oz gloves, but note that he was aiming for magic pressure points with delayed effect. Two minutes after this video was shot, the bag disintegrated.

Most of that stuff IS true Chris. Those feats (dunno about the chopsticks one or the one with the coke cans) but the ones about the pushups etc. is very much true.

I've got a photo at home of him doing pushups with only his thumbs, arms outstretched ahead of him. Even if he could only hold that position, it would be pretty remarkable.

Obviously, he is mucking about here. You really think that's as fast as he could punch? Seriously?

You don't even give him credit for being an accomplished athlete? Or you do, and you see no correlation between martial arts and fighting?

How would you actually find that out?

Linda: Honey can you open me a can of Coke please?

Bruce (thinking):Sure, now whats the best way to open 1 of these things? We don't have these in China. I know I'll thrust my thumbs through the can, that must be the best way to do it.

20 miniutes later Linda takes Bruce to the emergency room with blood gushing out of his thumbs.

No I don't buy the Bruce Lee mythology, theres too much bull**** surrounding Bruce Lee and little facts

You're talking about him asif he won the olypmics or a championship belt.

In case you didn't notice, he's an ACTOR. And yes, i give him credit for being an actor, but Charles Bronson probably was a better fighter than him, at least he did boxing instead of mything himself up:

Spending all day opening cans with your thumbs, punching people back 6 feet with inch punches and all that is cool, but i've seen the toughest looking guys quit like nobodies when they got hit for the first time.

Well i'm just disappointed that the one piece of footage of him hitting the bag is about as impressive as Zelenoff hitting the bag; both punch from the hip and have no speed. For all this "we needed faster cameras to time his arm punches" bull****, he sure looked like ****.

I think most people would agree that he was a better athlete than an actor. But if we're gonna look at it your way, I like Sly Stallone over Bronson. What do you think?

Bronson over Stallone any day. The difference between a trained boxer and a choreographed actor is huge. The mental aspect of being in a ring with a guy who is hitting you is very easy to underestimate and the implosion of a lot of people seemes innate of nature; it can't be taught.

Well, you've seen his movies (I assume so, since you said they suck) and he's like lightning there. I won't bother looking for footage in the net, because I've seen just how fast and explosive he was.

I understand your cynicism, but some of his physical feats really were pretty remarkable. I usually am very careful to separate fiction from fact (as I believe I've done already during the course of this thread) but at the same time I truly believe he was a remarkable individual who deserves some respect for his athleticism, especially since much of what he did was in front of witesses. ****, they can't all be talking rubbish and not all photos or film can be doctored, surely?

    Chris,

Bruce Lee was super fast. Watch his screeen test on this film. The action starts around 4:30 minutes in.

Or they broke while he did pushups on them, one at a time :D
