As impressive as it looked, was there a "real" application? I mean the video below shows him executing it, and the subject falls back into the chair. Impressive....until you think about this....you could hold your hand (open palm) one inch away from someone's chest, push them, and achieve the same effect.
It would be MORE impressive, if the subject crumples to the floor in pain. But clearly he's not hurt.
As a boxer, i've learnt it's not about the amount of force behind the punch, so much as the technique and speed of it that causes damage.
Similar to a car, hitting you at 10 miles per hour. You might get pushed out of the way without injury. Versus a car travelling at 100 mph....where you might explode into pieces. Still getting hit with a ton of force, just different speeds. So, really....what was the point of the 1 inch punch?

It was just his way of demonstrating technique. If he would have used his true force, the poor slobs chest would have exploded ala the famous scene in the movie Alien

A stunt or showy technique whose importance and effectiveness got blown out of proportion by PR and a willing public.

If one inch punches worked then kung fu guys should not get mauled by grapplers. :deal

Bruce Lee was a showmen. I liken him to a magician giving the sense of magic through martial arts. Most of his techniques were for movies not effectiveness, although his philosophy was on point.
