I once ran into him at Kimball Farm and we both had the same flavour ice cream-Kahlua Crunch. I said "Hey, brother." and he just sheepishly looked away, wiping the ice cream off his nose with the underside of his sleeve, kind of daintily. It was cute. He was shy.
A well gifted guy with a heart of a deer. His performance against Tyson is the most shameful ever, IMO. In the first KD tyson's right didn't even connected... He acted like a ******.
Nobody with any sense rated him before the Tyson fight. He was whipped by badly by Bowe and Tubbs. He was a failed prospect. He signed with Don King and got a title shot against a shell of Tucker. It's was an absolute joke to suggest he was world class contender.
He was a good prospect and for a brief period, a decent lower echelon contender. But he was never a true champion. In 1995 the WBA had Tony Tucker ranked #1 and Bruce Seldon #2. Neither man deserved to be anywhere near those ratings and I can remember Larry Merchant commenting on what a sham it was. The two of them were matched for the vacant WBA title. I've always assumed that it was a set up for Tyson to have easy pickings for a belt.
I thought he quit against McCall. He was killer against over matched opponents, didn't do well at all if they fought back. Must have seen 25 of his fights.
Seldon wasn't bad and was certainly entertaining to watch but he wasn't an elite fighter. It was proven that when he got in there with elite fighters he couldn't handle it not only Tyson but Riddick Bowe destroyed him as well. As far as him taking a dive against Tyson goes I don't buy that at all. The first punch that knocked him down and hurt him bad was a grazing shot that caught him behind the ear when he was ducking those shots can really take away you're legs. I'm a boxer myself and to be honest those are the only shots that I have been rocked by. The follow up left hook Tyson landed was a hard shot and landed flush putting him away. It was a shame because coming off his best win against a faded Tony Tucker in an exciting fight most would've expected a bit more out of him. As for him doing better in other era's I don't know about that. I think in any era he'd be in the top ten or close to it but there would always be a few fighters who were just to much for him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vM1_3TdHxQ Take a look at the 4:41, 7:51 and 8:11 marks... Can someone say Tyson's right caught seldon behind the ear? the punch didin't connect. The fact is that Seldon acted like a ******.
awww Seamus, you sholuldnt have. But now that you have, all hail Bruce The A.C.E Seldon Thanks to him Tyson broke some phenomenal records Willie Pep won a round without throwing a punch. Tyson did one better, he won a title without landing one.
No wonder Holyfield had a heart attack before the Tyson fight, it was after laughing so hard watching this fight
